On a brighter note, both births and deaths have tracked under the "standard run model" for the past 20 or more years. That is a small improvement. I do work full time. Time to bike communte in, an hour each way. The loss of world heritage treasures. Meanwhile, the British don't want to return looted Greek art. Or how about the Nazis with their stash of paintings. Or how about the US military in Baghdad opening up the national Museum to looters. Seems like looting is the way to go, or at least spray paint stuff with slogans. Maybe some of that stuff will get preserved and people thousands of years from now will marvel at the beautiful cave art that the looter culture created.
Where are the Venus de Milo's arms? Looters? Each time...thanks for publishing that World3 graph. Each time I look at it I see new things. Overall, growth will be negative until it levels off in regions that look like somewhere before 1900. The model has per capita industrial output leveling off at 1970 numbers. That seems optimistic. Food per capita on the other hand drops for the next 50 years and then levels off at half of what it was in 1900. That makes for a whole bunch of hungry if not outright starving people. Never mind the 1970s level industrial output based on resources that drop to near zero levels.
We can argue about particulars or wait for a decade or so and watch the whole thing live. In any case, a post-covid19 economic recovery seems unlikely.
When we go past 2050 on the model, population is predicted to be around 12 billion, again hard to imagine, while every other measure will have leveled off at rock bottom, and we have a world where it is hard to imagine rich people prospering anywhere other than in their bunkers. In any case, I have a hard time imagining anyone having a 30 year stash of groceries.
A good agricultural model for that sort of world would be the Mandan fortified villages on the upper Missouri farming the bottom lands and trading with nomadic buffalo hunters. Or maybe 17th century walled European towns with their farmers living inside the walls and doing their farming on plots surrounding the walled towns. And why not have CSA businesses to service the bunkers of the rich who would pay with what?Wolfgang Brinckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08314364206955412017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4275885258914846834.post-70165792009835096622020-06-24T10:11:02.936-05:002020-06-24T10:11:02.936-05:00Thanks for the two links on Caitlin's blog.
