Habitat Loss

Strawberry Mooners,

We are losing our habitat, the face of our planet, not all of it at once, but the pace of loss is speeding up, and our compensation wells of water, ice, and oil are running dry.
Real estate in Phoenix is still hot, and Las Vegas picked up from a few years ago. Nobody can live in these places without massive industrial life support and fleets of refrigerated trucks and trains, and those nice cars and airplanes.
It will be somebody-else's-problem, until it is suddenly my problem, and your problem.
Then it will be everybody's problem. Will anybody save everybody from everybody's problem?
How does it look for Syrians, Libyans, Iraqis, Iranians and Greeks? Have you talked to your friends from those places about how things are?
Another thing that is accelerating is the propaganda war by our rulers, through the NSA, CIA, electronic media of all stripes, and yes, even Google.
Our elites are getting desperate to maintain absolute control in their centers of power, and they need us to believe, until they can clinch a few more critical deals.
I am working daily to shave the edges of all of the ways I am completely dependent upon this massive fossil-fueled life support machine. It just keeps showing me how short a time I can hold my breath.
We are very, very fragile in this "Spaceship Earth".

Ron Paul MD writes...
"The Orlando shooter successfully passed several background checks and was a licensed security guard. But, just like those who used Orlando to defend unconstitutional surveillance, authoritarian supporters of gun control are not allowing facts to stand in the way of using the Orlando shooting to advance their agenda. Second Amendment opponents are using Orlando to give the federal government new powers to violate individuals’ rights without due process. One pro-gun control senator actually said that “due process is what’s killing us.”
Ironically, if not surprisingly, one of those calling for new gun control laws is Hillary Clinton. When she was sectary of state, Clinton supported interventions in the Middle East that resulted in ISIS obtaining firearms paid for by US taxpayers!"

"The War on Terror is, in fact, the American War against the World." Thanks Eleni

"A prominent Turkish journalist revealed dreadful facts about the Syrian refugee camps in his country that include raping children and selling the refugees’ body organs and women."  Also from Eleni, in Greece, where Greeks now have their prying eyes and helping hands excluded from the NGO-run refugee camps.

"Three children, four women and one man were killed on Saturday night, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It said a total of 60 Syrian refugees had been shot at the border since the start of the year... Turkey does not make it easy for refugees on its territory. In legal terms, it treats them as temporary guests rather than as refugees with rights under the terms of the 1951 UN refugee convention... “EU officials should recognise that their red light for refugees to enter the EU gives Turkey a green light to close its border, exacting a heavy price on war-ravaged asylum seekers with nowhere else to go.” Human Rights Watch

Also from Eleni:  " Bernie Sanders, the other candidate for the Democratic nomination, was counting on Mrs. Clinton’s arrest before their party’s convention. He therefore decided to stay in the running, although he does not have enough delegates. But he was summoned to the White House, and informed that President Barack Obama would prevent his administration from applying the law. Obama then followed through by publicly announcing his support for the candidacy of Mrs. Clinton."

Ilargi at The Automatic Earth says what is not being said by politicians and financiers.
The Brexit vote is a vote for or against the EU. Lovely things were promised. Austerity and destruction of representative government are being delivered. Are you voting for progressively more of that treatment? Things will keep getting worse, no matter what. Whichever side loses will claim they were right. There is no way to sustain economic growth, so the whole massive global capitalist structure cannot survive. (What follows?) Things will restructure to smaller units, more local, more "efficient" (more hard work for the survivors).

Back in the USSA: "Beginning with the contracting stage, the evidence suggests toll operating public private partnerships are transportation shell companies for international financiers and contractors who blueprint future bankruptcies. Because Uncle Sam generally guarantees the bonds – by far the largest chunk of “private” money – if and when the private toll road or tunnel partner goes bankrupt, taxpayers are forced to pay off the bonds while absorbing all loans the state and federal governments gave the private shell company and any accumulated depreciation. Yet the shell company’s parent firms get to keep years of actual toll income, on top of millions in design-build cost overruns…"

Urban Farming

Mobile Composters,

Dan sends this Urban Farming article from Kollibri Sonnenblume, an urban-bike-farmer from Portland Oregon. Kollibri had an ideal setting and lots of good press and goodwill in this, and soon had coworkers. They tended about 30 plots throughout Portland, producing food for their subscribing patrons. This arrangement was ideal in almost every realistic way. There is a good amount of human cultural background presented in introduction. Then the findings of that transformative endeavor are presented. (I'm not at the farming level, but I'm bringing tomatoes and cucumbers and green beans to work frequently these days. I am doing a lot of work, almost every day, and becoming transformed, humanized. Did I mention how much hot, itchy, back-hurting, squatting in sun with full, dirty hands, hair in face, and bugs in ears, work this is?)

Damned Lies And Statistics

Probably Tricked Again,
Statistical analysis of Democratic primary voting patters assess the odds that Hillary Clinton won without widespread voting fraud,. "In fact, one of the statistical models applied by Stanford University researcher Rodolfo Cortes Barragan to a subset of the data found that the probability of the “huge discrepancies”  of which “nearly all are in favor of Hillary Clinton by a huge margin” was “statistically impossible” and that “the probability of this this happening was is 1 in 77 billion”.  http://alexanderhiggins.com/stanford-berkley-study-1-77-billion-chance-hillary-won-primary-without-widespread-election-fraud/?
"Internal memos, dated May 2015—long before the first state voted in the Democratic primary—referred to Hillary Clinton as though she was already the Democratic presidential nominee. The documents leaked by Guccifer 2.0 not only illuminate the DNC’s efforts to ensure Clinton’s coronation but also reveal the strategies used to shield her from criticism on ethics, transparency and campaign finance reform—all vulnerabilities for the corrupt Establishment darling."  http://observer.com/2016/06/guccifer-2-0-leak-reveals-how-dnc-rigged-primaries-for-clinton/
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) says she is not abandoning Bernie Sanders to endorse Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary. “There are a lot of things I’m looking at. In particular, this issues that [Clinton] has not moved on at all in this campaign, which is this commitment to continue this interventionist regime change policy in Syria that is proving so disastrous.”  Sanders on late Thursday refused to concede the race for the Democratic presidential nomination to Clinton.  http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/283990-sanders-surrogate-im-not-prepared-to-back-clinton
"Whenever we try to explain the reasons behind the crisis, such as the build-up in non-productive and counterproductive debt, people ask us why did this happened now, and not earlier? Bottom line, the world economy is running on a system with no natural correcting mechanisms. As we are never tired of pointing out, the Soviet Union only had one recession, the one in 1989. The system was stable, until it was not."  http://bawerk.net/2016/06/18/you-are-currently-living-through-the-dumbest-monetary-experimental-end-game-in-history-including-havenstein-and-gonos/

Wait, isn't Germany always supposed to agree with NATO boss, USA? "What we should avoid today is inflaming the situation by warmongering and stomping boots,"Steinmeier told Bild in an interview to be published Sunday. "Anyone who thinks you can increase security in the alliance with symbolic parades of tanks near the eastern borders, is mistaken," Germany's top diplomat added.  http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-06-18/suddenly-nato-imploding-alliance-member-germany-slams-nato-warmongering-against-russ
NATO is sending an extra 4 battalions to the Russian border, "poking the bear", ever more.    "The US, Germany and Britain will each contribute 1,000 soldiers, with Canada expected to confirm its own contingent of 1,000. The deployments are among the most provocative actions taken by the NATO high command in the course of its anti-Russian buildup, now well into its second year. Smarter When Hungry

Seeing Inconsistencies,

The Saker looks at the latest terrorist media-extravaganza. Thanks Eleni.
Terrorism is really an illusion. For one thing, I am unaware of any form of real terrorism which is not sponsored by at least one, or several, government(s). The actual atrocity, no matter how horrible, is just a trigger for the much more important assault on our minds. The point of terrorism is not to kill people, it is to make us all stupid.
From the point of view of this logic, the 50 people murdered in Orlando were really only “collateral damage”, that we all are the real targets of this assault.
The only meaningful way to defeat terrorism is to refuse to think in the manner terrorist events are designed to make us think.
The scary part is that Hillary is now proposing a totally arbitrary system of denying 2nd Amendment rights to Americans based on the notorious “no fly” list. If that is not yet another frontal assault on our basic civil rights, I don’t know what is!

Paul Craig Roberts observes about the Orlando shooting, lots of official pronouncements, but "Still No Evidence" (In fact, what evidence seems to come from eyewitness reports contradicts the official stories, and not all in the same way, either.) I think Eleni sent this, too.

"Police admit officers may also be responsible for gunning down Orlando night club patrons"
Try searching that headline on Google News. Nothing, NADA!

"Media refusing to cover numerous witness accounts of multiple shooters in Orlando massacre"
That's another headline from Eleni, at this link:  http://thefreethoughtproject.com/media-censoring-multiple-shooter-orlando/
Search Google News for "Multiple shooters, Orlando".
All I get is 3 stories, all 3-4 days old.
First is Snopes "disproving" one account of multiple shooters, primarily by police statements.
The other 2 are police statements saying there was just the one guy.

Pro-"Stay" British MP, Jo Cox was shot and stabbed, with media reporting that murderer shouted the name of a "Leave" rightist movement twice just before the grisly murder. Other say he said no such thing. One might expect a terrorist act like this, being blamed on the :"Leave" crowd, would swing sentiment to "Stay". It didn't. "Leave" lost no support, but "Stay" lost some support to "Don't Know". Are people getting wise to terroristic manipulation? (Naaaah...)

Brexit, as seen by disposessed British workers: “I’m sick of being called a racist because I worry about my own mum and my own child,” and “I don’t begrudge anyone a roof who needs it but we can’t manage either.”  http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jun/15/brexit-working-class-sick-racist-eu-referendum
Ambrose Evans Pritchard takes a hard and righteous stance against the British political elites who are increasingly desperate in their statements supporting "Stay" in the EU.

Switzerland formally withdraws 1992 application to join EU.

79% of Greeks are now without access to health care, on top of unemployed and getting evicted and electricity cut off. They are dying younger across the board. Thanks Eleni (All refugees get Greek health care.)

About that group of 51 State Department staffers wanting Obama to bomb Syria more to get rid of Assad, because he supports ISIS, or something.

Saudi Foreign Minister visits with President Obama and urges more bombing of Syria to get rid of Assad. (Unanimous, then?)

leaked emails show the DNC colluded with mainstream outlets to heavily favor Clinton.  (Ugly facts here. Just the start.)

"Guccifer-2" says the DNC is grasping at straws when it claims Russia hacked Secretary of State Clinton's unprotected Blackberry and email server (Why would any country do that?  :-)
"He", whoever he is says he did it, was in there a year, and found all this swell dirty email! Thanks Tom.

There has been work towards sustainable economy, mostly out of necessity. Argentina is used as an example here, but Cuba fits, too. Extractive economy has extracted so much of the good easy fuel and ore that it can't grow. Stagnation collapses the financial model and forces a reset. Change is inevitable. Hands over ears, shouting "I can't hear you", is to no avail.

The Human Choice

Friends,

Our current economic system is designed to reduce humans to isolated individual roles of worker and consumer. Each worker and each consumer can be dealt with in standard ways by the business, industrial and governance models. All human functions are cordoned off as "specialties", regulated, licensed, monitored... This is an expensive way to do things, but the isolation of each function allows for extraction of value by the system at every exchange, which can't be done in our ancient economies of family and small community.
This taxation of every transaction, is advertised as assuring high quality of goods and services, and it might in some cases, but the price is proportionally higher still.
This isolation of each human is unnatural to our species, and we are all feeling the stress of it. Each minute is assigned weeks in advance, and the most performance must be extracted from each minute, as dictated by it's category of allotment.
It does allow for vast groups of compliant humans to be managed and controlled effectively, but only if there is always enough free energy to keep feeding the inefficiency created by isolation of individuals from cooperative groups.
This is not how our species evolved, and it is not what we are naturally good at, and it is not what got us to the point where we discovered oil under the ground.

Yesterday I copied and pasted and sent an essay from Dmitry Orlov about this artificiality of our current societal constructs, and how dangerous it is to all of us, including those at the top. His essay is far more insightful and nuanced than my reference to it. http://cluborlov.blogspot.gr/2016/06/the-law-of-attraction.html
We will all come back to "Dunbar's Number" when we study ourselves, our species. Dunbar's Number is about 150, and it denotes the number of functional relationships a human is capable of. Of course it's more for those with political talent, and fewer for some, but it's a number studied from a lot of different anthropological and historical vantage points, and it hangs together pretty well.
It sure is a problem when there is a country to run, or even Flint, Michigan, General Motors or the US Army.
The Roman legions were organized with respect to Dunbar's number, long before Dunbar derived it. 100 was the number of soldiers commanded by a Centurion. It worked. Our groups tend to be self organizing at this human scale, but our tendencies to fall into line in a group can also be employed to put a centurion in place for each group, with a chain of command. Centurions can also be commanded. Somehow, the army must be fed it's "Roman meal" and paid in the "salt it is worth".
Control of the routes for transport of precious salt created an isolation of humans from their needs, which could be defended by force, and permitted very high taxes to be levied, paid in grain, to get the salt. Wherever salt was scarce, military might built up along the salt-trade routes.
All those castles along the Rhine river are a good example that we learned about on our family bike tour through that region a decade ago. A lot of them are youth hostels now, and at the top of hills. We noticed that on the bikes.
We now have vast energy from fossil fuels, nuclear power, hydroelectric, wind and solar/ This energy supplies vast factory farms, systems of processing and distribution, and we have the internet, and Google, and the NSA, and "total information awareness" for the NSA and CIA. We approach something like total control of the information each of us is presented with, in our splendid isolation, with our glowing screens, our portals into "the world".
We are not just a long way away from salt. We can't access any of our basic human needs directly or through our family or village. That is our basic design, what we are evolved to over millions of years, and we are denied it.
How's this working for you?
.
The vast energy, which supports this travesty is slightly past it's sell-by date. The few at the top who rule over us, are not different from us in their design limitations. They are still feeling like centurions controlling that legion, maybe King Richard, or Caligula.
When there is not enough food, salt and energy to go around, they send groups of peasants out with orders to kill each other.
That can go on a long time.

At this moment in the river of history, we have not fully destroyed our global ecosystem, and have not yet run out of oil. The vast information network of the internet allows us access to more good and bad information about the world than any ruler had 30 years ago. The trends are clear. We are going into a harsher and more controlled world, like what people experience now in Greece, or Turkey, or Syria, or Libya...

To whatever degree we can do so, we need to practice cooperating in small groups to grow food, and the tasks that arise in that process. This is as natural an engagement as we are capable of, and deep enough in our instincts to still exist for our discovery. We can interact this way, even if it is new to us.
We may not survive what is rushing our way. None of us survives, anyway, but we may be able to die among friends and family if we begin living among friends and family, actually living.

It's hard to break out of the Matrix, and it means more work than we are already doing, and turning off the glowing portal.
Gotta' go now, out into the garden, before it heats up.

Largest Mass Shooting In US History

Burying my Heart,

The largest mass shooting in US history happened December 29, 1890.
297 Americans were murdered. What criminal organization did it? Thanks Cat.

Witness at Orlando nightclub "saw two guys firing constantly". Thanks Eleni.

Omar Mateen hung out at gay bars for years, a regular customer.
(Did he have a self-loathing kill-them-all-and-let-Allah-sort-us-out moment? And what about the other shooters, who got away?)

"Seddique Mateen, father of Orlando Shooter Omar Mateen, is a well known political personality having hosted a TV show and having been a former presidential candidate for Afghanistan." [and CIA asset] Thanks Colleen

"Reliable intelligence sources in the West have indicated that warnings had been received that the Russian Government could in the near future release the text of email messages intercepted from U.S. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail server from the time she was U.S. Secretary of State. The release would, the messaging indicated, prove that Secretary Clinton had, in fact, laid open U.S. secrets to foreign interception by putting highly-classified Government reports onto a private server in violation of U.S. law, and that, as suspected, the server had been targeted and hacked by foreign intelligence services. The reports indicated that the decision as to whether to reveal the intercepts would be made by Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, and it was possible that the release would, if made, be through a third party, such as Wikileaks. "

Here is that "Wikileaks will Publish Enough Evidence to Indict Hillary Clinton" story again. Somehow it looks better today.

What if Vladimir Putin Does Know a Third Way for Society? Thanks Bill
(The author struggles to point to things he can see, but can't clearly name. I think he sees Putin as benevolent-despot, philosopher-king, spiritual-champion. There, I said it for him.)

An interview with Fidel Castro on the "War of Ideas". Great danger of nuclear armageddon.
"When war is upheld as a humanitarian endeavor,  the judicial system is criminalized, the entire international legal system is turned upside down: pacifism and the antiwar movement are criminalized. Opposing the war becomes a criminal act. Meanwhile, the war criminals in high office have ordered a witch hunt against those who challenge their authority." Thanks, Eleni

Charlie Hebdo In Orlando

Giving the Right Impressions,

The shooting of about 100 people in an Orlando gay bar was immediately reported the way anything like this gets reported: "Danger: Ban Muslims with Assault rifles, Now!". There are a lot of odd things, like the one dead guy was a goofball, may have been in there for hours, had at least 2 other shooters "working" with him, and there were full-automatic weapons. People were kettled in the club by somebody outside trying to hold the doors closed. Stuff like that. Thanks Cat.

Saudi Crown Prince says Saudi Arabia has funded about 20% of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. (Naaah, there's laws against that kinda' stuff.)

Julian Assange says that Wikileaks will release enough of Hillary's emails  for her to be indicted. (So, like the FBI and Justice Department already have all of that and more, right? She's not indicted, right?)

US coal production was less in the first quarter of 2016 than at any time since a big coal strike in 1981. Go Green! Go unemployed!

Eating Crow Pudding

Tastin' Like Chicken,

Julian Assange announces more proof of Hillary Clinton's pudding, as Wikileaks prepares to release another large, searchable batch of her State Department emails, with which she was so careful to keep to herself. Thanks Ray.

Brexit yet?
Vote is June 23, and it looks like the "Go" vote is ahead and gaining daily. British debt will get a big ratings downgrade, but the EU might be hurt worse than that. Ambrose Evans Pritchard:
"Britain will be stripped of its coveted AAA status immediately and may face a double-barrelled downgrade if the country takes a leap in dark, jeopardizing its trading and financial ties to its biggest market."
S&P currently rates the EU at AA+ with a negative outlook. It said the EU’s assets are just $58bn, far too little to cover its complex web of liabilities through a plethora of bodies. The agency warned that the ‘Juncker Plan’ for $315bn of investment projects contains “first lost” provisions that could effectively lead to a 20-day margin call on losses. “This would significantly increase the EU’s off-balance sheet exposures over the short term, backing projects that target a higher risk profile. We see this as a marked increase in the EU’s contingent liabilities.”     http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/06/09/brexit-might-trigger-run-on-britains-record-financial-debts-sp-w/
Ambrose states his personal position here, and acknowledges the costs.     "With sadness and tortured by doubts, I will cast my vote as an ordinary citizen for withdrawal from the European Union.Let there be no illusion about the trauma of Brexit. Anybody who claims that Britain can lightly disengage after 43 years enmeshed in EU affairs is a charlatan, or a dreamer, or has little contact with the realities of global finance and geopolitics. Stripped of distractions, it comes down to an elemental choice: whether to restore the full self-government of this nation, or to continue living under a higher supranational regime."    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/06/12/brexit-vote-is-about-the-supremacy-of-parliament-and-nothing-els/
"The European Central Bank (ECB) said they are gearing up for the UK leaving the European Union (EU) by activating swap lines to financial institutions should the Brexit trigger capital outflows in the short-term. Meanwhile, major European Banks are already facing declines in stock valuation."   More hints at how big a risk this is to European banking.   http://inserbia.info/today/2016/06/european-central-bank-preparing-for-brexit/
Dmitri Orlov is in fine form here today, explaining why interest rates had to shrink to zero, as the projections for future economic growth shrunk. The logical extension for the day that growth is over, and officially acknowledged, is that you will get paid monthly to keep your interest-only negative-interest-rate-mortgage. This is swell, until you look at problems arising, which he does.   http://cluborlov.blogspot.gr/2016/06/the-money-cult.html
Pension funds the world over are near having to admit that they will never actually be able to pay everybody what they owe them, based on their 7%-growth-forever projections of investment income. (This is going to take lots of little lies frequently over a long period of time, and enough other really scary news for people to hold themselves fortunate to have cat food and Diet Pepsi.)  https://www.sprottmoney.com/blog/the-pension-bubble-how-the-defaults-will-occur-peter-diekmeyer.html
You know those payroll taxes that come out and get sent to the IRS every 2 weeks? It turns out that sudden drops in that income signal that a recession is underway, or half a year or so before it's impossible to hide, and has to be admitted/announced. We're there again.     https://mishtalk.com/2016/06/09/us-tax-receipts-signaling-recession/
Syrian government army forces have cut ISIS off from it's main supply and oil smuggling route into Turkey. (tick, tick, tick, tick...)   http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160611/1041163997/manbij-turkey-route.html
El Nino is officially over, which leaves California still in drought, and Texans wondering how this July and August will play out. (Really wondering, y'all...)

Kids Say The Darndest Things

Repeating Hearsay,

Those wacky Sanders supporters...
When asked why her friends would vote for Republican candidate Donald Trump over Clinton, Frederick explained, “They all say she’s corrupt, she’s crooked, she’s beholden to Wall Street — that she lies. She changes her line according to what her banker donor friends tell her to do.”

"That a long-time, lone-ranger Senator can get this far is a tribute to his focus on widely-felt, repressed priorities. His candidacy is contrasted with the avarice of the plutocratic/oligarchic corporate state. This dominant corporatism possesses few loyalties to country and community other than to control them while treating the workers’ economy with disinvestment and unbridled globalization." Ralph Nader

"That challenge could be overcome if Sanders accepts a recent invitation from Green Party frontrunner Jill Stein, who offered the Vermont Senator her position on the ballot, should he decide to contest what many suggest is a broken two-party system. The Green Party is eligible for ballot access in 40 states, and political analysts suspect Sanders could run an effective write-in campaign in the remaining contests."

How to destroy a real economy with smart parasites:
"With very few exceptions, MBA education today is basically an education in finance, not business—a major distinction. So it’s no wonder that business leaders make many of the finance-friendly decisions. MBA programs don’t churn out innovators well prepared to cope with a fast-changing world, or leaders who can stand up to the Street and put the long-term health of their company (not to mention their customers) first; they churn out followers who learn how to run firms by the numbers...  If you wonder why most businesses still think of shareholders as their main priority or treat skilled labor as a cost rather than an asset—or why 80 percent of CEOs surveyed in one study said they’d pass up making an investment that would fuel a decade’s worth of innovation if it meant they’d miss a quarter of earnings results— it’s because that’s exactly what they are being educated to do."

"Fellow Americans, if you care to avoid vaporization and, assuming we do avoid it, live a life other than serfdom, you must wake up and realize that your most deadly enemy is Washington, not the hoax of “Russian aggression,” not the hoax of “Muslim terrorism,” not the hoax of “domestic extremism,” not the hoax of welfare bankrupting America, not the hoax of democracy voting away your wealth, which Wall Street and the corporations have already stolen and stuck in their pockets." Paul Craig Roberts

The fight against Islamic State forces in Syria appears to be at a turning point. For the first time since the start of hostilities, two anti-terror coalitions (those led by Russia and those pro-U.S.) have, in effect, joined efforts to liberate Raqqa, the de facto ISIS capital.
“Targets are chosen on the basis of space reconnaissance and covert intelligence, while the Syrian army’s actions are coordinated with our military advisers,” the source said. “We have established contact with the U.S.-led coalition, but there is no joint operation planning on the cards. We have proposed it, but the U.S. does not want to have full-fledged cooperation with us,” said the source.

Meanwhile Turkey sends some kinda' Sunni jihadis to Aleppo, to try to carve a province out of Syria, maybe give ISIS a new "Capitol".

They told him not to expect to give a speech at Muhammad Ali's funeral, but...
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promptly finished his visit to the US and will skip the final farewell to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, amid reports that he had been refused permission to deliver a speech at the funeral and had been prevented from undertaking some religious rituals.
