Bright Future For Sale

Considering the Source,

"How to Make a Profit From Defeating Climate Change" is a business proposition from billionaire Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of NYC.
Ilargi, at Automatic Earth, takes that as a starting point in the analysis of how the profit motive mindset has brought us here by burning and mining and trashing whatever it takes to make a profit, and the best-man keeps "winning".
We got here pretty fast. Fossil fuels were a one-time gift. The amount of free-energy left after we burn the energy to get black gold out of the ground is a small fraction of what it was 100 years ago. We got the easy stuff first.
Some easy oil remains in Iraq, Libya and Iran (funny, that).
It turns out that roads vastly facilitate our destruction and burning of nature ("development"), There's an article about that at the end.
We command vast fossil fuel energy to dominate this planet. When we have completed the task, we will all die of starvation.
We can individually change. Don't count on Trump to fix it any more than Obama or Bush or Clinton did. There's no "green energy".

The FBI continues investigation into criminal activities of the Clinton Foundation. "Just doing their job until it's done", is the word.

Implicated in Democratic Primary Election-Rigging and co-starring in Pizzagate, John Podesta is sore, and tired of all this bad publicity. He wants it to go away.
Washington Post op-ed today... "The more we learn about the Russian plot to sabotage Hillary Clinton’s campaign and elect Donald Trump, and the failure of the FBI to adequately respond, the more shocking it gets," he begins...

Hillary Clinton explains to pissed-off-billionaire-donors that she lost their investments due to Vladimir Putin rigging the election against her, and FBI Chief Comey writing that damned letter to Congress. ("There, we're all friends again, right?")

Donald Trump isn't helping heal open wounds with Putin-defending tweets like this:
"Are we talking about the same cyberattack where it was revealed that head of the DNC illegally gave Hillary the questions to the debate?"

Why can't we all be friends and agree on things?
A group of retired senior intelligence officials, including the NSA whistleblower William Binney (former Technical Director, World Geopolitical & Military Analysis, NSA), have posted an open letter on consortiumnews.com that destroys the Obama administration's "Russian hacking" narrative.  Within the letter, Binney argues that, thanks to the NSA's "extensive domestic data-collection network," any data removed remotely from Hillary Clinton or DNC servers would have passed over fiber networks and therefore would have been captured by the NSA who could have then analyzed packet data to determine the origination point and destination address of those packets.  As Binney further notes, the only way the leaks could have avoided NSA detection is if they were never passed over fiber networks but rather downloaded to a thumb drive by someone with internal access to servers.

According to the historian William Blum, the CIA has “(1) attempted to overthrow more than 50 governments, most of which were democratically-elected, (2) attempted to suppress a populist or nationalist movement in 20 countries, (3) grossly interfered in democratic elections in at least 30 countries, (4) dropped bombs on the people of more than 30 countries, (5) attempted to assassinate more than 50 foreign leaders.” (So we should just take their word...)

President Obama, subsequently en-route to Hawaii, gave his last press conference of 2016, and blamed Putin.
"Obama stuck to the script, and said Russia "in fact" had "hacked into the DNC," but that the actual voting process was not compromised. The White House was just trying to "let people know" what was going on.'

Vladimir Putin has had enough of the relentless barrage of US accusations that he, personally, "hacked the US presidential election."
The Russian president's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said on Friday that the US must either stop accusing Russia of meddling in its elections or prove it. Peskov said it was "indecent" of the United States to "groundlessly" accuse Russia of intervention in its elections.
“You need to either stop talking about it, or finally show some kind of proof. Otherwise it just looks very indecent.”

Finian Cunningham has this update on Aleppo, and the painful (for neocons) transition beginning in US Foreign Policy (First, you have to admit you have an alcohol problem, then...)
Instead of dealing with the reality that Syrian state forces have recaptured Aleppo from brutal, illegally armed groups, which the West and its regional clients have bankrolled and armed, the West distorts the dramatic victory as the «fall of Aleppo». One report on American channel CNN even referred to the victorious Syrian army and its allies as «persecutors».
Why aren’t the Western news media interviewing the tens of thousands of civilians who have now managed to flee from the defeated terrorist groups? Why don’t the Western media ask questions about the nature of their captivity? Such as, why could they not escape from militant-held eastern Aleppo until now? What do these civilians think of the Syrian army and its allies who have crushed the militants?

Saudi Arabia is willing to reduce the pumping rate on it's wells, which is quite magnanimous, unless they have to because they have been over-pumping to the point that total cumulative production is getting hurt; "unsustainable" rate of production...

In the latest encounter in international waters in the South China Sea region, the USNS Bowditch was sailing about 100 miles off the port at Subic Bay when the incident occurred, according to the official. Bowditch had stopped in the water to pick up two underwater drones. At that point a Chinese naval ship that had been shadowing the Bowditch put a small boat into the water. That small boat came up alongside and the Chinese crew took one of the drones. According to US officials, the unmanned vehicles was seized unlawfully by China.  A Reuters official also adds that "the UUV was lawfully conducting a military survey in the waters of the South China Sea," the official said. "It's a sovereign immune vessel, clearly marked in English not to be removed from the water - that it was U.S. property." [Personally, I think it is not a vessel, which would hold people, but a device, which is different in the law of the sea. This is really double-grey-zone activity. "The toy was there in the playground, and had been there for days, and we picked it up just inside our yard."]

Hail Mary Pass

Reliable Sources,

Craig Murray, the former UK ambassador to Uzbekistan, who is a close associate of Assange, called the CIA claims “bullshit”, adding: “They are absolutely making it up.”
“I know who leaked them,” Murray said. “I’ve met the person who leaked them, and they are certainly not Russian and it’s an insider. It’s a leak, not a hack; the two are different things.

NBC reports that "new intelligence shows that Putin personally directed how hacked material from Democrats was leaked and otherwise used. The intelligence came from diplomatic sources and spies working for U.S. allies, the officials said."

Harvard Law Professor, Larry Lessig says he's close to turning enough Republican electors to put Clinton in the White House, instead of Trump.

Jim Kunstler points out the actual nature of the poisoned and empty chalice, which Donald Trump is presumed to win Monday, December 19, when electors cast their votes. ("Trump-flavored collapse", says I.)
The disappointment issuing from this dire set of circumstances is apt to be epic as Trump flounders and the furious tweets of futility waft out of the hole he’s trapped in. Christmas will be over, and with it the hopes of a retail reprieve. Gasoline may remain cheap, but the little people won’t be able to buy the cars to run it in. Or buy much of anything else. Not even tattoos.

Turkish Revenge on EU and Greece:
The numbers of migrants crossing from Turkey to the eastern Aegean islands are on the rise, but the percentage of those who merit international protection is on the wane.
A total 324 undocumented migrants crossed from Turkey on Friday, most of them from Africa and Pakistan. Another 330 reached Greece on Saturday.
Refugee families currently stranded on the islands are reluctant to share a roof with economic migrants, mostly young men from the Maghreb region (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria) who allegedly often display delinquent behavior and are on the front lines of riots at reception centers.

The lame-duck EPA, soon to be destroyed by new director Scott Pruitt, finally, guardedly declares that yes, fracking contaminates local wells, "under some circumstances". The Science Advisory Board also took issue with how the draft report inexplicably omittedthree critical fracking-contamination cases—Dimock, Pennsylvania; Parker County, Texas; and Pavillion, Wyoming.

Death By Stupid

Coroners,

Aleppo is no longer a divided city. That's over.
Churkin, "the military operation in Eastern Aleppo is now over, and the Syrian government has begun restoring control." "My latest information is that they indeed have an arrangement achieved on the ground that the fighters are going to leave the city," Churkin said Tuesday ahead of the emergency UN Security Council meeting in New York. According to Churkin, the militants, who have been holed up in eastern Aleppo for years, are scheduled to leave the city "within hours."     http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-12-13/assad-retakes-aleppo-military-operation-over-russian-envoy
Turkish constitutional change to make parliament a rubber stamp to an autocratic President Erdogan was getting broadly debated. Erdogan and friends were not kicking-ass in the broad debate. Now these bombings by a small-but-violent Kurdish revolutionary group have killed a lot of Turkish citizens. Who benefits? Thanks Eleni.  The proposed constitutional change was met by substantial public criticism – until the “Kurdistan Freedom Hawks” distracted from the discourse by exploding two bombs in Istanbul. Instead of discussions about and protests against what is widely perceived as the attempt to implement a semi-dictatorial presidential system, the AKP, the MHP and associated organizations are now calling for mass rallies against terror (Kurds), and national unity.  http://nsnbc.me/2016/12/11/kurdish-tak-claim-responsibility-for-istanbul-bombings-timed-for-a-constitutional-coup/
“Developments in al-Bab are linked to clashes in Aleppo. Turkey is reportedly transferring opposition fighters withdrawn from Damascus, Homs and Aleppo to the al-Bab region to form a paramilitary force under its control. Turkey sees control of al-Bab as a key for its ruling Justice and Development Party to have a say in the future of Syria and to prove the futility of Kurdish aspirations to form and control a corridor along the Turkish border. Thanks Eleni

In Egypt, which has recently been friendly with Russia and Syria again, helping Syria militarily against Daesh in Aleppo, for instance. Bombings have killed Christians in a Coptic church. This is a first. There is lots of divisive blame going around. Who benefits (if anybody)? Thanks Eleni.

Ron Paul says the war on fake news is a war on free speech (But Russia did it, Congressman!)

Ghost Banning? What's that? Is it a thing? Who cares? It gets rid of fake news? OK, I guess... "Censorship" you say?
"I had never heard of ghost banning until I was ghost banned by Twitter. That of course is the idea – they censor you without realising you are censored. People no longer get notifications when I post, and the tweet only turns up in the twitter line of followers who happen to be logged in at the time my tweet goes out. Those logging in later will no longer see tweets I issued while they were away. Most of my tweets no longer show up on twitter searches, and further restrictions are applied when people retweet my tweets." Since ghost banning, traffic to this website from Twitter has fallen 90%.  http://www.globalresearch.ca/ghost-banning-on-social-media-the-start-of-systematic-censorship/556171
"Censorship is not helpful to democracy--rather, it is the death of democracy."   http://www.oftwominds.com/blogdec16/democracy-media12-16.html
Hey, this Propornot blacklist of Russian-stooge-websites seems to have come out of Ukraine, with CIA backing. Wassupwiddat? Thanks Eleni.

Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), while not disputing the CIA's analysis of Russian hacking operations - something which would be unprecedented for the US spy industry and would telegraph just how partisan and broken the country's intelligence apparatus has become - has refused to endorse the CIA's assessment "because of a lack of conclusive evidence" that Moscow intended to boost Trump over Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

FBI, isn't buying the "fuzzy and ambiguous" assertions from the CIA that Russia "quite" clearly meddled in the U.S. elections on behalf of the Trump campaign.

Democratic fixer and pizza partier, John Podesta says electors should get an intelligence briefing (Don't read the contents of the Russian leaks of my emails, guys!) before casting the votes entrusted to them for Donald Trump.
"It was unclear which particular agency would provide the briefing, if it was permitted, especially in light of reports that there has been a schism between the CIA and FBI in their interpretation of whether Russia had indeed intervened directly to push for a Trump election."

Update: Forty members (up from 29 earlier) of the Electoral College on Tuesday signed a letter demanding an intelligence briefing on Russian interference in the election ahead of their Dec. 19 vote.
Almost none of them are assigned to vote Trump. (Tump picked up votes in Wisconsin with that recount, folks. Is this a "Hail Mary Pass"?)

Donald Trump nominates stupicide-bomber for head of Department of Energy (You may not have any idea how stupid Rick Perry really is. He should be head of the department of hookers-&-blow, from local rumors I have heard for decades.)  Perry's selection is amusingly ironic, because five years ago, Perry wanted to eliminate the Energy Department: in an infamous 2011 Republican primary debate, Perry forgot that the Energy Department was one of the three federal government agencies he wanted to do away with.

What's Plan-B for restarting the economy with a massive spending and tax-cut program from the fed'ral gub'mint, Mr Trump?
"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell warned he considers current levels of U.S. debt “dangerous” and said he wants any tax overhaul to avoid adding to the deficit."

Spin Cycle

Great Unwashed,

Washington Post Issues Correction to Fake News Story:
"Many people in Washington are irate over Wikileaks — not because the email were untrue but because they proved what many had long suspected . . . that Washington is a highly corrupt place full of truly despicable people. For people who make their living on controlling media and information, it was akin to the barbarians breaching the walls of Rome. So the answer is to call for government regulation to combat what will be declared “fake” news or propaganda."

The Washington Post now has a more polished version of how the Russians influenced the presidential election to favor Trump, citing inside information from government intelligence sources that a contact of a contact was briefed on. President Obama took months of worrying about what people would think before finally being driven by conscious to let friends of friends leak that Vladimir Putin was probably opening channels of information to hurt Hillary & Co.
(Really, Don't Look at the Information!) Thanks, Tom.

President Barack Obama, 9/10/13 : "I will not put American boots on the ground in Syria. I will not pursue and open-ended action, like Iraq or Afghanistan."
Update: President Obama announces sending 200 US Intel/Special-Forces personnel, presumably wearing flip-flops, to Syria, to arm and direct the moderate-rebels our country is creating-jobs-for there, before Donald Trump takes office and creates some kind of nightmare-scenario.
The President has been forced to reverse the ban on transport of weapons of war into Syria, which the US has not invaded, due to extreme threat or something.

US Foreign Policy will be vastly different under a Trump administration (I guess).
EXXON CEO Rex Tillerson is nominated for Secretary of State.
The 64-year-old Texas oilman, whose friends describe as a staunch conservative, emerged as a Secretary of State contender only last week following a meeting with Trump, when it was speculated that he would consider the offer "due to his sense of patriotic duty and because he is set to retire from the company next year. The son of a local Boy Scouts administrator, Tillerson was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. He attended the University of Texas, where he studied civil engineering, was a drummer in the Longhorn band and participated in a community service-oriented fraternity. He joined Exxon in 1975 and has spent his entire career at the company. For most of his adult life, he has also been closely involved with the Boy Scouts of America, even occasionally incorporating the Scout Law and Scout Oath into his speeches.  Mr. Tillerson played an instrumental role in leading the organization to change its policy to allow gay youth to participate in 2013. Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates subsequently moved to lift the organization’s ban on gay adult leaders as Boy Scouts president in 2015. Mr. Tillerson said in a speech after the 2013 decision, “We’re going to serve kids and make the leaders of tomorrow.” (Ruh, Roh...)
Tillerson will sell his $150+ million in XOM shares tax free, courtesy of the tax break that was introduced in 1989 under the administration of President George H.W. Bush.
Tillerson helped shift Exxon’s response to climate change when he took over as CEO in 2006. He embraced a carbon tax as the best potential policy solution and has said climate change is a global problem that warrants action. (but more tellingly...)
In 2011, Mr. Tillerson struck a deal giving Exxon access to prized Arctic resources in Russia as well as allowing Russia’s state oil company, OAO Rosneft, to invest in Exxon concessions all over the world. But it was subsequently blocked by sanctions on Russia that the U.S. and its allies imposed two years ago after the country’s invasion of Crimea and conflicts with Ukraine. As such, many have speculated that under his regime, the State Department may quietly drop any existing sanctions against Russia.
Finally, as NBC also adds, Tillerson's deputy secretary of state for day-to-day management of the department will be former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton.
To summarize: a cabinet run by Wall Street and big oil (with a neocon backstop), and a handful of veteran generals thrown in.

The Senate passes the "Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act" (because Fake-News is from Russia, and has to be countered by our government at every turn. It will take the whole government, and every loyal-citizen, some of them paid, to ferret out the many foreign-influenced agents within our country, but we will all be safer for their efforts.)

Has Liberty Departed from America?
Paul Craig Roberts introduces a book, a scholarly work from a UT Political Science Professor, Lance deHaven-Smith, Conspiracy Theory in America.
The book looks at State Crimes Against Democracy, "SCAD", exploring the JFK assassination and 9/11 WTC attacks among others.
It contains the CIA memo, laying out the "Conspiracy-Theory" tag, to mark people with different analysis to the official government story as weird-kids, to be shunned.
That worked pretty well. Somehow that memo never got destroyed, like it said to do to it.
A critical part of these crime against democracy is to have the explanation completely ready by the afternoon of the shock, and to reject any other interpretations or considerations as weird-tinfoil-hat stuff. Thanks Eleni.

The EU wants all of the whipping boys and whipped refugees from wars-for-oil in the Mideast to be stuck in Greece. Germany suddenly has that 100,000 refugees to push back out the still-open-door, so that Angela Merkel might be re-elected, for instance. According to the once-upon-a-time Dublin Agreement, asylum seekers must register in the first EU state the set foot upon. Other states can send them back to that one. That state seems to be Greece for a ot of these refugees from wars. That was suspended in 2011, for obvious reasons. Greece was getting a massive flood of war, famine and political-repression refugees. Everybody else was going to pitch-in.
Not now. Everybody gets sent back to Greece, starting next spring, unless they first set foot in Italy, of course...

German MPs (rightly) say that Germans never agreed to Greek "bailout" without IMF participation, which was always known to shift massive debt-burden onto German citizens. German lawmakers may prevent German (still good credit) participation in this most recent financial-capitalist search for more revenue-flows-from-taxpayers. The Greeks are as bled-dry as they can be by now.

Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, and still sits on over a third of the island nation and closer to half of the coastline. US/NATO really sides with Turkey in this outrage, but can only support the status quo, not more invasion, due to other political structures. Cyprus won't get help from "guarantor" UK. "Guarantor" Greece is generally financially exhausted, and "guarantor" Turkey is the invader, so what can be done to help Cyprus?
Good question, not answered here. Greece and Russia want to help. The EU wants this to be over. Turkey wants more, and the UK wants to keep it's good military bases, but is probably open to huge bribes of a meaningful sort. Thanks Eleni (in Athens).

Indian farmers briefly sell tomatoes for 4 cents per kilo, less than the cost of transport, before just dumping them on roads for cars and trucks to run over. There is no money in India. This was supposed to be a good year for farmers. It was before 88% of Indian cash disappeared one night.

Manus Island is a holding camp for unwanted refugees seeking to go to Australia. It's a strange twilight zone of despair, where Papua/New Guinean islanders resent these foreigners thrust onto their land, while profits flow elsewhere, and violence between islanders and prisoners, and within the prison population kills and maims. 80% of these men are clinically depressed. They are reduced to political tools, and they know it. Australia will never let them set foot there. The US will probably accept a few someday, the ones proven most harmless, and maybe still able to work. The UN says this is illegal, but only if it goes on and on and on.

This is another of the stories we keep seeing about human organ trafficking from war zones, using parts of refugee's bodies and dumping the rest of the body in a pit. Children's kidneys are the best business proposition. Children's bodies in mass graves are often found with surgical incisions where the kidneys once were. Israel is big in this business, still, nothing new...

As the Mediterranean becomes more and more of a critical conflict area, the US is going to set up a naval and airbase in Haifa, Israel. (Gotta' keep supporting Israel, ya'know?)

Pizzagate

Apprehensive,

I have been seeing links to stories about political-elite child sex-trafficking since before the election. Some of us thought that the Wikileaks "bombshell" that was expected before election-day would be Pizzagate information. It never happened.
Numerous of the links included today, and the impetus to finally post this gut-wrenching story come from Travis.
My difficulty with this is that it is so deeply disturbing that normal humans desperately want closure, want it to be "Fake News", or want to grab all the guys who did it and kill them in the open streets.

We all know that some human males are obsessed with controlling other humans, even to the point of killing and eating them, as Jeffrey Dahmer did.
Dahmer would pose the bodies of his victims after killing them, and take Polaroids, like this one. Who would spend the money to glorify this image in a massive bronze statue and suspend it in his personal mansion?

More of Tony Podesta's Art Collection

This story from the UNZ Review opens with a self-protective response, rejecting information about a huge child-prostitution ring in England. It was just too horrific to consider, and was safely hidden in the open for a decade.
Beginning in 1997, in an English town of more than 100,000 people, eight Pakistani men stood at the core of a group involving as many as three hundred suspects who abused, gang-raped, pimped and trafficked, by the most conservative estimate, well over a thousand of the town’s young girls for years.  The police were eventually accused of not just turning a blind eye, but of participating in the abuse — even supplying the Pakistani gangs with drugs and tipping them off when they heard of colleagues searching for children they knew to be in the gangs’ possession.

This story first broke in the only place where people would read it, the "far-right-blogosphere".
Well, that's easy to pass of as racist-extremist-KKK-stuff, and everybody did, until they didn't.
Look at some Wikileaked John Podesta emails.

One of the strangest emails involves Joe Podesta being asked this question: “The realtor found a handkerchief (I think it has a map that seems pizza-related). Is it yours?” In one email, Podesta is among those being invited to a farm and the host says, “Bonnie will be Uber Service to transport Ruby, Emerson, and Maeve Luzzatto (11, 9, and almost 7) so you’ll have some further entertainment, and they will be in [the] pool for sure.”

There are identification symbols used by men who like sex with boys, and men who like sex with little boys shown in the UNZ story, images linked to Comet Ping Pong pizzaria, and their social media, which have since been scrubbed. (What does "ping pong" mean?) There are more disturbing Tony-Podesta-Art-Collection images if you scroll down. There is the fact that troves of "pedophile pornography" images involve murder of children, as well as rape. Whose children? Where were their homes?

This perverted compulsion is found in responsible officials of US Federal and State government agencies, the intelligence services, military, computer-security experts, politicians, police... There are arrests and indictments on charges of collecting these images, thousands of pictures, of young children being raped and murdered. This story has a list of some of those important people and their criminal cases. It can only be the tip of the iceberg.

The Inquisitr has covered the weird-gunman-in-the-street story. This may be the "threat to ordinary Americans" that Hillary Clinton is so worried about. The gunman-in-the-street story seems to have been reported 9 hours before the call to police, something that happens when a staged-event gets delayed, but the media efforts don't get notified in time. There are more details of the code words used by child-sex-traffickers and disturbing Tony Podesta art-collection images.

Podesta “regularly opens his house to casual pizza parties co-hosted by his friend James Alefantis, the owner of Comet Ping Pong,” according to a mainstream article about Tony Podesta’s art collection.   This video exposes the most intense censorship rhetoric possibly seen yet in the age of information: accused pedophile James Alefantis working with the NY Times, calling for Facebook and Google to censor content that explores info that should be free for anyone to access, in the public domain.

Esther Baker was a little girl, who was abused by a high Government Minister in England (unnamed, due to ongoing investigation). She has waived her own right to privacy and is telling some of what was done to her decades ago in her home town. She hopes that other living adults, raped as children, can come forward.
