Credit For Wars

 Peaceniks,

Fabio Vighi illuminates the problematic economic forms devised by humans:  The Architecture Is Credit - War, AI, and the Motor Behind the Stack
‘The Overlooked Compulsion’ by FuturEarly does something rare and valuable: it moves past usual suspects like AIPAC, Adelson, and Epstein. These belong to the visible layer, and the article is right to treat them as dog walkers rather than the lead. The real leverage, it argues, is structural: Israel sits inside the silicon, the scheduler, the security plane,... but I think it stops just short of the layer that matters most. It describes the mode of appearance of the dependency without confronting the engine that reproduces it...
..That logic, I argue, can be stated plainly, though its implications are anything but simple: the architecture is credit. What the article calls ‘compulsion’ is the compulsion of credit capital to find a permanent technological frontier. War is how that frontier gets financed, made real, and kept hot. In this respect, war is not an aberration of modern historical progress but its modus operandi.
..The article’s most striking formulation — ‘No intent. No switch. Just structure’ — immunises the argument against the language of plot and agency. In doing so, however, it flirts with the “fetishism of the stack”: the tendency to treat the technical architecture as a self‑acting entity rather than the product of social and economic forces. The risk is a Heideggerian one: that the technical order comes to appear as an autonomous destiny, as Gestell or enframing, rather than as a fetishised form — the historically specific technical expression of credit, state power, and crisis management...
..The article points out that the story of Chinese AI as an existential danger is a useful exaggeration. That story is being pushed and paid for by a political committee (a super PAC) that is itself funded by top executives from AI companies and major venture capital firms. This embodies the ideological form through which credit capital legitimises its own deployment. The threat does not need to be real; it just needs to be plausible enough to sustain procurement budgets and multi-year commitments...
..Israel as the Territorialisation of Credit’s Need
If credit needs a frontier, the question is: where is that frontier located, and how is it held in place? The article’s rich empirical material (Mellanox into NVIDIA, Annapurna into AWS, Habana into Intel, Run:ai into NVIDIA, Wiz into Google, the Unit 8200 pipeline into Check Point and Native and Grip) maps how credit’s need for a permanent frontier has been territorialised (to use Gilles Deleuze’s famous term) in a specific geopolitical arrangement...
..It is the form, or mode of appearance, that credit’s restless nature takes when it encounters a geopolitically dense, militarily active, technologically sophisticated platform. The byproduct/design distinction assumes an intentional subject. But credit has no subjectivity, except its blind, automatic compulsion to grow. And that compulsion finds its outlets where it can, territorialising itself where the conditions are right; turning a specific state, a specific intelligence apparatus, a specific set of firms and acquisitions into the embodiment...
..Israel is where the frontier is kept hot. Its position in the stack ensures that the threat environment is never absent. By placing Israel under US Central Command (CENTCOM), and through measures such as Section 219 of the House-passed Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act — which would establish a formal US–Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative — the US is seeking to make close defence-tech collaboration with Israel a more durable, legally structured arrangement. This arrangement would institutionalise a continuous demand for new security technologies, especially in areas like AI and autonomous systems...
..The 20th Century Template
At bottom, this is not an argument about AI, except insofar as AI is the current object of a much older process. It is an argument about credit capital that could be told through any of its modern frontiers, with AI as only the latest. The form is visible throughout the twentieth century, starting with the First World War.
WWI cannot be explained by the alliance system alone. The assassination at Sarajevo did not cause the war in any sufficient sense. Rather, it supplied the detonator. The combustible material was a European order increasingly unable to reproduce its imperial, industrial, and credit structures without violent reorganisation. The WWI carnage marked the moment when the “internal barrier” of valorisation – the extraction of surplus-value from productive labour – first became visible as a historical phenomenon; and war debt, inflation, and the suspension of the gold standard exposed the deep irrationality of a system that, since then, can only sustain itself through increasingly destructive, credit-financed expenditure... Hence WWII as the second round. And, subsequently, the Bretton Woods system, the Cold War, and the arms economy as attempts at managing the inner limit — the structural contradiction of contemporary capitalism that turns credit into an anxious and destructive entity...
..What has changed since the Cold War is not the inner compulsion of credit but its object and scale: the frontier has moved from heavy industry and nuclear weapons to silicon, software, and now AI, while the debt bubble required to sustain accumulation has swollen to unprecedented proportions. The architecture of dependency the article describes is the grotesque twenty-first-century form of a late nineteenth- and twentieth-century credit addiction. It is credit capital, still needing a war to valorise itself, now embedded in the digital nervous system rather than the factory floor; in the inference cluster rather than the assembly line; in the security plane rather than the missile silo. The compulsion is the same, and its mode of appearance is familiar to anyone who has studied the long history of capital’s search for outlets.
The “Rogue AI Alibi” as Credit’s Exculpatory Device
The rogue-agent narrative performs a further ideological task: it recodes the effects of a credit-driven technological buildout as technical accidents. If AI systems are said to act autonomously, the market disruptions, logistical failures, and escalations they facilitate can be treated as malfunctions rather than as consequences of a system designed around expansion, securitisation, and state-backed risk transfer. The sandbox is therefore more than a testing environment: it is an alibi, a way of making a system appear to have escaped human design precisely when its institutional function is most visible.
This is fetishism in its purest form. The social relation — credit’s need for a permanent frontier — appears as a property of the thing itself. The AI is rogue; the compulsion is overlooked; no one is responsible because no one intended it. Yet someone built and funded it, and someone profits from it. The structure does its work precisely by obfuscating the logic that requires it, by presenting itself as inevitable, neutral, technical, when in fact it is historical, partisan, financial.
Is There a Non-War Use of AI?
The question that follows from all this is unavoidable and no doubt difficult to answer: is there a use of AI that is not war-related? Is there a use of AI outside credit-addicted, ultra-financialised capitalism? Under present conditions, there doesn’t seem to be any such use. This is not because AI is inherently military, but because the scale of AI deployment required to justify its capital costs demands a state-backed threat environment.
AI’s civilian applications (language models, image generators, recommendation systems, etc.) are real but insufficient: they do not absorb or validate the amount of credit now being mobilised around the AI buildout...
The civilian (including educational) uses, then, increasingly function as the public-facing justification, while the military uses are the foundation...
..AI’s current form is determined by the rationale of credit capital. A different form of AI — one developed and deployed according to different priorities — is conceivable and desirable. But it would require a different mode of production and form of social organisation. It would require that technological development be decoupled from the addiction to credit. In other words, it would require a world outside capitalism...
..If the compulsion the article names is real, then the only way to break the compulsion is to dismantle the social logic that reproduces it. To change what technology is for, to subordinate it to something other than the endless expansion of value...
..The United States became addicted to Israeli tech slowly, then suddenly, and now indefinitely. One might put it differently: the United States was already mired in credit’s own compulsion to repeat. Naming this engine, of course, does not resolve anything. However, it changes what we are looking at. It shifts the question from “how do we decouple from Israel?” to “how do we decouple from the logic that makes Israel indispensable?” It changes the question from “how do we make AI safe?” to “how do we make technology answerable to something other than credit?”... The possibility — however distant — of a different architecture and a different world.   https://substack.com/home/post/p-218634402

Martin Armstrong has a computer-program that has been pretty good at projections for 20 years: The Light at The End of the Tunnel – It’s Not All Doom & Gloom
Many people have asked how bad it will get. Will there be civil war and blood in the streets? I do not see a revolution in the United States in the sense that one side is all-powerful and seeks to eradicate its opponent. The risk that the United States will break up, as in Canada and Europe, does not imply outright civil war. The break will likely come first, and it will form along the lines of the LEFT vs. the RIGHT.
The good news is that the fall of the West is inevitable since no political state lasts forever. However, this time it is different, for it is not people rising up against tyranny that produces the blood in the streets as in the American and French Revolutions. Here we are dealing with the facade of Republican forms of government worldwide that have become unresponsive to the people, but are economically crumbling from within at their very foundations.
This is the Sovereign Debt Crisis. The fall of the West can be largely silent, much like the fall of the Soviet Union. As I have said many times, Russia collapsed all by itself because COMMUNISM was not economically sustainable. Here in the West, rising “progressive” movements are also undermining the economy; like the USSR, they are economically inefficient.
A USSR-style collapse of the United States, a sudden, negotiated dissolution of the entire federal union into separate successor states, without a civil war, is highly unlikely without a Sovereign Default. The key is the government’s ability to muster forces against the people. That requires the fiscal capability that becomes nonexistent in the middle of a Sovereign Debt Default. Therefore, a non-violent collapse is not theoretically impossible.

The World Has Burned Through Its Safety Margin — $323 Trillion in Debt, Hundreds of Millions Facing Hunger, Failing Power Grids, Vanishing Water Reserves, and a Global System Running Out of Room to Breathe
By late 2024, global debt reached $323 trillion. That is not a typo. Three hundred twenty-three thousand billion dollars, owed by governments, corporations, and households who have spent four decades treating the future as a credit card with no limit. The Institute of International Finance tracked this figure with the clinical detachment of coroners weighing organs. It equals 88% of world GDP, up from 60% before the 2008 crisis and 84% before COVID-19...
..We will examine why 295 million people currently face acute food insecurity while grain reserves thin to levels not seen since the years before world wars. Why power grids from Texas to Cuba to Sri Lanka fail with increasing regularity even as demand skyrockets from data centers and electric vehicles. Why military spending hit $2.88 trillion in 2025, the highest in human history, while diplomatic solutions atrophy. Why water systems serving 3.2 billion people approach breaking points. And why leadership across major economies seems paralyzed or actively hostile to preparation, preferring instead the anesthesia of denial....
.These three numbers—debt, hunger, blackout—are not separate crises. They are symptoms of a single underlying condition: the depletion of margin. Civilization operates on buffers. Grain stocks for bad harvests. Reserve capacity for peak demand. Fiscal space for emergencies. We have spent forty years converting these buffers into consumption, treating redundancy as inefficiency to be eliminated by market optimization. The margin is gone. What comes next will not be managed. It will simply be endured...
..Freshwater represents the ultimate constraint because it cannot be substituted or manufactured. While Earth is 70% water, only 0.5% is freshwater readily accessible for human use, and much of that is becoming scarcer due to demand growth and climate disruption. Currently, 3.2 billion people live in agricultural areas with high to very high water shortages or scarcity, and 1.2 billion live in severely water-constrained regions where agricultural production requires unsustainable groundwater extraction.
Groundwater depletion has reached crisis proportions. The Ogallala Aquifer in the United States, which irrigates 20% of American corn and wheat production, is declining at rates of 1-2 feet annually in some regions. India’s Punjab region, the breadbasket of the subcontinent, faces aquifer depletion that could reduce irrigated area by 20% within a decade. Saudi Arabia exhausted its fossil aquifers and now relies on desalination for 60% of municipal water, consuming 20% of national electricity production to produce water at costs of $3-4 per cubic meter compared to $0.10 for groundwater...
..Human psychology is poorly adapted to slow-moving catastrophes. We evolved to respond to immediate threats—predators, enemies, natural disasters visible on the horizon. We did not evolve to respond to statistical projections, compound curves, or gradual degradation. This mismatch explains why populations continue patterns of consumption, location, and dependence even as evidence accumulates that these patterns are unsustainable.
Prepping—once stigmatized as paranoid fringe behavior—has entered mainstream discourse, though often in commodified forms emphasizing gear acquisition over skill development. Genuine preparedness involves community resilience, not individual bunkers. It means knowing neighbors, maintaining local food networks, understanding water purification, and possessing skills that function without electricity...
..Serious preparation would require acknowledging that economic growth as currently defined is incompatible with planetary boundaries. It would mean accepting debt write-downs as necessary evils rather than unthinkable taboos. It would involve rebuilding grain reserves to 120-day supply levels, upgrading electrical grids to smart distributed systems with storage redundancy, and relocating populations from zones of unsustainable risk.
The costs would be enormous—estimated at $100-200 trillion globally over two decades. But the cost of non-action is higher, measured in lives lost, civilizational regression, and geophysical changes that lock in suffering for centuries. Current global military spending of $2.88 trillion annually, if redirected to infrastructure and climate adaptation, could fund necessary transitions...
..The trajectory is clear to anyone willing to look. Yet the response remains inadequate because the problem exceeds our current political and economic frameworks.
What comes next is not predetermined. Collapse is a process, not an event, and processes can be slowed, redirected, or survived. But survival requires seeing clearly what we face, abandoning comforting illusions, and building relationships and systems that function when the large structures fail. The individual cannot prevent global debt crises or climate change. But individuals can learn skills, store resources, strengthen community bonds, and face reality without despair.

John Helmer, DOES RUSSIA SPEAK AGAINST THE RULING CLASS OF THE WORLD OR FOR JOINING IT?
Not since Stalin has a Russian leader attempted to explain in public what he thinks to be the root causes of these wars; and what he has decided must be the Russian method for dealing with the ruling classes of enemy states.
Unsaid, the President’s implication is that Russia doesn’t have a ruling class; that he doesn’t represent a ruling class himself; and that in the absence of capitalism ruling at home and expanding as imperialism abroad, he can negotiate for Russia’s immediate defence and long-term security with the “national interests” of the enemy states, “especially under President Trump”.
And not only Putin for Russia and Trump for the US, but also Netanyahu for Israel in its wars in Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.
“The problem of Israel,” he told Taha Ozhan, a Turkish state advisor who asked about Israel’s five wars, “must be determined by the Israeli people. The people of Israel must define in the course of their democratic electoral procedures all Israel’s problems.” In response to an Iranian question about the Israeli-American wars against Iran and Palestine, Putin said the killing of Iran’s national security advisor Ali Larijani was “a mistake”, and that the genocide in Gaza “is one of the most acute and sensitive humanitarian problems.”
“The whole world is watching closely,” Putin continued, “and admires the courage, heroism of the Iranian people and its steadfastness, and …in the state management, in the armed forces, in the IRGC, and in the people, the readiness for self-sacrifice in the name of the people’s future.”
Not the Palestinians, Putin omitted to say. About them, he said: “the Palestinian problem, I said, again I repeat, it can be solved only on the basis of the creation of a full-fledged Palestinian state. As for the fact that US policy towards Palestine is determined by Israel, this is unlikely, I will allow myself to say."

Merz’‘s visit was unannounced but we can be sure it was anticipated by the Russians, who on Saturday already issued the following warning to “foreign nationals, personnel of diplomatic missions, to refrain from remaining in or travelling to Ukraine; responsibility for any possible adverse consequences lies entirely with those who choose to disregard this warning,”
