Deadly Dancing

 Changing Partners,

Simplicius has this headline and further context. I can't tell what this declaration means. There are lots of moving parts, but this is a signal of de-escalation in the Gaza genocide. Israel has reportedly run out of targets for the air force to bomb, even with their AI target-generation system. Update on Palestine: IDF Claims Gaza City Victory

Professor Anthony Hall , The Strange Dance of Hamas and Netanyahu , The History of Hamas Underlying the Israeli Assassination of Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut Lebanon
The designation of Hamas as a terror organization served a number of agendas. Some in the Israeli government expressed their pleasure with the new arrangement. For instance Amos Yadlin, Israel’s National Security Adviser, told the US Ambassador that “Israel would be ‘happy’ if Hamas took over Gaza, because the IDF would then be able to “deal with Gaza as a hostile state.”

Israeli Military Chief Says ‘Fighting’ in Gaza Will Continue All Year
“The year 2024 will be challenging. We will be at war in Gaza,” said IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi during a visit to the West Bank. “I don’t know if it will be all year long. We will be fighting in Gaza all year, that’s for sure, and this will also hold the other arenas, certainly in [the West Bank], to a certain state of alertness.”
Halevi also warned of the possibility of “another war” in Lebanon as cross-border strikes between Hezbollah and the IDF have increased since Israel launched a drone strike in Beirut that killed a senior Hamas official last week.

Israeli war cabinet cracks at the seams over possible 7 October probe
An investigation of the Israeli army's actions during Hamas' Al-Aqsa Flood operation may shine further light on Israel's killing of its own soldiers and civilians
War cabinet minister Benny Gantz says he supports the Israeli Army Chief of Staff’s call for an investigation into the security and intelligence failures of 7 October, the Times of Israel reported on 6 January.
During a cabinet meeting on 5 January, several extremist ministers, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, ganged up against Chief of Staff Herzl Halevi for his intention to launch a probe into the army’s shortcomings on 7 October, when Hamas carried out an unprecedented attack on military bases and settlements in southern Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu abruptly ended the meeting after shouting erupted as some ministers came to Halevi’s defense.
Gantz acknowledged it was appropriate for government ministers to challenge the information provided to them by security chiefs at cabinet meetings but added: “What happened yesterday was a politically motivated attack in the middle of a war.”

The senior Hamas officials says the Resistance will take revenge from the Israeli occupation for the assassination of leader Sheikh Saleh al-Aroui and his companions.
The assassination of martyr Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri will not change or alter the Resistance's convictions, Hamas politburo member Osama Hamdan confirmed on Sunday, vowing that revenge from the Israeli occupation entity for its crime is definitely coming.
"The enemy will face a response from us that will teach it that the assassination will not weaken the Resistance," Hamdan said in a televised address.
However, he stressed that the greater revenge that the Resistance will take is the liberation of occupied al-Quds, ending the occupation, and the return of Palestinians to their land.
"The ones who will leave the land of Palestine and go back to where they came from will be the occupying settlers," Hamdan stressed.
"Our land will only be Palestinian, for the Palestinian people."
I am referring to the 84-page “application” that South Africa filed with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on 29 December 2023, accusing Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.1 It maintains that Israel’s actions since the war began on 7 October 2023 “are intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian national, racial and ethnic … group in the Gaza Strip.” (1) That charge fits clearly under the definition of genocide in the Geneva Convention, to which Israel is a signatory.2
The application is a superb description of what Israel is doing in Gaza. It is comprehensive, well-written, well-argued, and thoroughly documented. The application has three main components.
First, it describes in detail the horrors that the IDF has inflicted on the Palestinians since 7 October 2023 and explains why much more death and destruction is in store for them.
Second, the application provides a substantial body of evidence showing that Israeli leaders have genocidal intent toward the Palestinians. (59-69) Indeed, the comments of Israeli leaders – all scrupulously documented – are shocking. One is reminded of how the Nazis talked about dealing with Jews when reading how Israelis in “positions of the highest responsibility” talk about dealing with the Palestinians. (59) In essence, the document argues that Israel’s actions in Gaza, combined with its leaders’ statements of intent, make it clear that Israeli policy is “calculated to bring about the physical destruction of Palestinians in Gaza.” (39)
Third, the document goes to considerable lengths to put the Gaza war in a broader historical context, making it clear that Israel has treated the Palestinians in Gaza like caged animals for many years. It quotes from numerous UN reports detailing Israel’s cruel treatment of the Palestinians. In short, the application makes clear that what the Israelis have done in Gaza since 7 October is a more extreme version of what they were doing well before 7 October.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed on Sunday that the Israeli occupation forces committed 12 massacres against Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.
The Ministry said that the massacres claimed lives of 113 people and left 250 others wounded.
This brings the total deaths from the Israeli occupation aggression against the Gaza Strip to 22,835, in addition to 58,416 wounded since October 7, 2023.

The “Transfer” of Palestinians Out of Gaza Is Not a “Voluntary Migration”
Palestinians have known all along that the real objective of Israel’s horrendous assault on Gaza is emptying the Strip of all Palestinians and the return of Jewish settlements. After nearly 90 days of relentless bombardment and a lackluster effort on the part of the Israeli government to negotiate the release of the hostages taken by Hamas, it has become clear even to Israelis that Netanyahu’s declared goals of “dismantling Hamas, returning our hostages, and ensuring that in Gaza there will be no one that threatens Israel” are nothing more than a cover for the government’s “transfer” plan.
The first phase of the transfer plan commenced with the carpet bombing of northern Gaza and an evacuation order telling Palestinians to leave the area — one of the most densely populated in the world — and move to southern Gaza “where they will be safer.” But no sooner had they reached southern Gaza than bombs started to rain on them again — in Beit Lahia, Khan Younis, Maghazi, and other heavily populated residential neighborhoods...
..Recall Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant saying, “We are fighting human animals, and we are acting accordingly.… We will eliminate everything — they will regret it.” Or retired Maj. Gen. Giora Eiland telling Israeli media, “Creating a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a necessary means to achieve the goal. Gaza will become a place where no human being can exist.”

Gaza destroys western divide-and-rule narratives
Since Israel's assault on Gaza began, three separate polls show that Arab and Muslim populations are shifting their support away from Washington's regional allies toward West Asia's Axis of Resistance.

Moon of Alabama , Palestine SitRep: Lebanese Resistance Causes Enemy Losses - Is Ready To Fight Off Attacks
Hizbullah's Secretary General Hassan Nasralla has given another speech. (1/5/24)
He emphasized the successes of the campaign which Hizbullah started on October 8 2023, a day after Hamas' latest revolt against Israel, along the Lebanese border with Palestine.
On the longer than 100 kilometer front all Israeli military bases have been targeted, as well as its settlements, with a total of 670 operations.
48 border posts have been targeted 495 times as well as 50 posts behind the borderline.
17 settlements, where Israeli soldiers went into hiding, have also been attacked.
Technical surveillance equipment with a cost above a $100 million has been destroyed.
The resistance published 90 videos and photos that showed the destruction of Israeli tanks and other vehicles.
Israeli media is silent about the resistance successes.
The eight Israeli hospitals nearest to the border have taken in some 2,000 wounded soldiers.
230-300,000 settlers have fled from northern Israel.
120,000 Israeli soldiers have to stay in the north to secure the border.
Nasrallah also empathized that the various resistance members can bring advantages to their respected homelands (Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen).
Since 1948 it was Israel that displaced Lebanese people and built security zones on Lebanese land. Today the settlers are fleeing and Israel is building a security belt on its side of the border.
Should the situation in Lebanon escalate it will have a chance to regain all its land that Israel still occupies.
In Iraq the resistance now has a chance to again kick the U.S. out. The U.S. claims to be there to fight ISIS but ISIS is a U.S. product.
In Yemen the resistance is winning international applause and respect for its Ansar Islam (Houthi) government.
All resistance countries are in danger of Israeli attacks should the resistance in Gaza be defeated. Helping Gaza is thereby in the interest of all those countries.

The single most flagrant error in the analysis of the enlightened and independent minded diplomat whose lecture caught my attention was to measure Russia’s success or failure in the Ukraine war by what we impute to Russia and not what Russians themselves define as their aims. In this war, Vladimir Putin listed three tasks at the outset: to demilitarize Ukraine, to denazify the country and to ensure it does not join NATO. The most important among them is, of course, ‘demilitarization’ which means crushing the Ukrainian armed forces. From this the other two follow necessarily. And destruction of the Ukrainian army is now a realistic expectation in the foreseeable future.
I have little doubt that this war will end, quite possibly in the coming six months, with a peace settlement that amounts to Ukrainian and Western capitulation to Russia’s demands.

The quantities that are being depleted affect each other in a negative feedback loop leading to a sharp peak followed by a collapse of humansphere and knowledge. The timing of the collapse was determined by fitting the global limits to population in the context of hyperexponential growth. Population is predicted with 80% confidence to be 7.0 to 7.5 billion in 2020, and to peak between years 2018 and 2023 at a value of between 7.2 and 7.6 billion people.

Jigsaw Puzzle

 Macro Viewers,

Surplus Energy Economics ,  How to be happy, wealthy, and bankrupt
FINANCIALIZATION, ANOMALY AND RISK IN AN INFLECTING ECONOMY
It’s been said that, when events turn fast, furious and frightening, and civilians are panicking, the professionals get ever cooler and more calmly calculating.
If this is so, we’ll need to be very professional indeed in 2024.
One of our most serious challenges is that economic and financial forces are pulling in opposite directions. Transactional activity, and the aggregates of assets and liabilities, are continuing to expand, even as the underlying material economy is inflecting from growth into contraction.
Our interest, in this first article of 2024, is in the process of financialization which is driving this divergence. We need to know why parallel forces are driving us to a state of simultaneous affluence and destitution, and why trends increasingly obvious to investors in energy are still invisible to those investing in almost everything else.
Just one consequence of this disconnect is the ludicrous proposition that fossil fuel assets – without which we cannot possibly transition to renewables – are somehow “stranded” and valueless, when the reality is the polar opposite of this exercise in absurdity.
Where wealth is concerned, capital theory tells us that, as the authorities continue to prop up the flow side of the economy by wrecking the stock side of the equation, the resort to ever-looser monetary policies should result in continuing rises in asset prices.
At the same time, though, a point will soon be reached at which the sheer magnitude of our mountainous debt and quasi-debt liabilities induces confidence-snapping vertigo.
Soaring asset prices are, logically, going to make us rich, then, just as escalating liabilities are going to land us in the poor-house. Since logic baulks at the concept of affluent bankruptcy, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that we’re going to end up owning vast amounts of worthless money...

-The detailed assessments-
..Where now?
Looking at our predicament, whether as description or as charts, a number of critical points become apparent.
First, the same financialization process which is creating a simulacrum of “growth” is driving debt and broader liabilities to a point at which vertigo sets in. A clear implication is that the “everything bubble” in asset prices must explode, and that decision-makers must adopt ever looser fiscal and monetary policies in an effort to keep the show on the road.
Analysis of the material economy, meanwhile, reveals a background process in which certain sectors – led by discretionaries, and by those over-invested in the supposedly-perpetual miracle of financialization – either contract or disappear.
Your guess is as good as mine as to whether the economy contracts gradually, or a financial collapse burns out the wiring linking the components of the material economy.
All we can really do is work out the pattern of stresses in the system, thereby trying to push the odds in directions favourable for ourselves.
It’s an old adage that ‘the most dangerous part of a car is the nut holding the steering wheel’.
Where decision-making is concerned, we can only hope that the arrival of materiality brings wisdom where the progression of financialization has brought folly.

Russia has the BRICS Presidency this year, and Vladimir Putin has just declared his intention to introduce a BRICS currency this year. This is time-sensitive, not casual.
BRICS Currency ‘Almost Ready’, Will Be Much More Attractive Than US Dollar, Pound and Euro, Says Ex-Russian Minister  , 11/3/23
In an interview with TV BRICS, Sergey Glazyev says that the currency itself is almost complete, but it still needs support from all leaders of the economic alliance.According to Glazyev, some member nations have already thrown their weight behind the currency.
“We need only political will because technically this currency is almost ready. The software and mathematical tools have been created.
In order to launch this currency, we need the political consent of the BRICS countries, three of which have already expressed their support for the idea of introducing a new currency through their heads of state. We are waiting for the reaction of China and India.”
The former minister also says that Russia will be in a position next year to convince other BRICS nations to green-light the currency.
“And in order to launch such a currency, Russia, as the presiding country next year, could convene an international conference to sign an agreement on the introduction of such a new international settlement currency.”
As a whole, BRICS nations have expressed varying levels of support for a common currency, with leaders in Russia and Brazil firmly behind the idea. South Africa is the most conservative, expressing the need for a cautious approach while emphasizing the importance of the US dollar.
According to Glazyev, the new currency will be backed by two baskets which would make it less susceptible to debasement and more attractive than the US dollar.
“It is based not only on a basket of national currencies of the member countries, but also on a basket of exchange commodities. The model shows that this currency will be very stable and much more attractive than the dollar, pound and euro.”

Hasan Illaik ,  Israel’s Gaza withdrawal, a prelude to full-out war  [The Lebanese government is "captured" by the US/Israel, but Hezbollah can missile-blockade Israel.]
Don't be lulled by the Israeli troop withdrawal from northern Gaza. Tel Aviv has no intention of ending this war, and is escalating on all its other fronts, including with Lebanon.
At the start of the new year, Israel’s occupation army began implementing the withdrawal of a large portion of its forces from the northern Gaza Strip.
This withdrawal did not mean the end of the war on Gaza, and it certainly did not suggest calm on the Lebanese-Israeli front. On the contrary, reducing the pace of the war in the Gaza Strip increases the possibilities of an Israeli war on Lebanon...
..The third stage is coming
The first stage of Tel Aviv’s war was the mass destruction and occupation of northern Gaza; the second stage is the occupation of key points in the south of the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian civilians have flocked for safety. The current troop withdrawal from the territory’s north means that the Israelis are cementing their southern plans and preparing to move on to phase three: the long, low-intensity war.
As it enters the third stage, the occupation army intends to maintain a geographical buffer surrounding the northern Gaza Strip. It also plans to continue occupying the Gaza Valley area (central Gaza), while completing its operations in Khan Yunis in the south.
The fate of the Philadelphia axis – or Salah ad-Din Axis – a strip of land on the border between Gaza and Egypt which Israel wants to control, will be left to deliberations between Tel Aviv and Cairo. This is to ensure that incidents do not occur that lead to tension between the two parties, as well as to guarantee that refugees do not flow from the south of the Gaza Strip towards Sinai.
Israel’s ground withdrawal from northern Gaza is taking place primarily because the occupation army’s target bank has been depleted. All targets prior to the start of the war have been destroyed, and all new operational targets have been bombed.
Despite this, the Palestinian resistance continues to carry out operations against Israeli forces. These organizations remain relatively unscathed in the entire area of the northern Gaza Strip, which will increase the ability of the resistance to inflict losses on occupation ranks, now and in the future...
..These measures are being taken because Israel has patently failed to achieve the two main goals of its war, namely, eliminating the Hamas-led resistance in Gaza, and liberating the Israeli prisoners captured by the resistance on 7 October.
There remains a basic motive that must be noted: The Israeli army is currently putting all its efforts into implementing a US decision to push the war from its first and second phases into the third phase before the end of January 2024. This requires the war to be managed at a slower boil, drawing less attention to Israeli carnage and the mass suffering of Palestinians.
After three months of brutalities, Washington has assessed the Israeli army as unable to eliminate the resistance or the possibilities of regional escalation, and has noted the significant harm caused to the US administration of Joe Biden as he enters the presidential primary season...
..As the Israeli occupation army moves to focus its operations on the southern Gaza Strip, the intensity of military operations along the Lebanese border between Hezbollah and the Israeli army has also been ratcheted up.
Hezbollah increased its targeting of occupation soldiers, both in their visible locations and inside the settlements of northern Palestine...
..By increasing its strikes, Israel’s leadership seeks to inflict the greatest possible number of losses among the ranks of the resistance fighters, as well as to spread panic among southern Lebanese residents – displacing more of them, and destroying the largest possible number of homes. This places a burden on both Hezbollah and the Lebanese state in the reconstruction process after the end of hostilities.
But there is a longer-term goal to this Israeli military performance. The government in Tel Aviv, according to its official statements, wants Hezbollah to withdraw from the south of the Litani, to ensure the security of Israeli settlers in northern Palestine who abandoned their homes, either voluntarily or under evacuation orders from their army. By some estimates, the number of Israelis fleeing their settlements in occupied north Palestine has reached more than 230,000 people...
..Israel is therefore hoping that Hezbollah will yield to pressure and meet its demands regarding the withdrawal of its fighters from the border area with occupied Palestine.
The Israeli assessment of Lebanese affairs preceded its assassination of Al-Arouri in Beirut on 2 January. But in the same way that Israel military commanders and politicians have under-estimated and dismissed armed Palestinian resistance initiatives within occupied lands prior to 7 October, they continue to cling to a dated Israeli calculus that Hezbollah will never fully retaliate, or that it will only do so in a way that stops short of war...
..But while Hezbollah takes into account the complex political and economic Lebanese reality, it is not prepared to make concessions. Sources in the resistance axis say that Israel, as Hezbollah sees it, is not in a position to go to war with Lebanon when it cannot even compensate or digest the massive strategic losses it has incurred from Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Despite its desire to not expand the war, Hezbollah has already begun to prepare for it...
..The bottom line is that Tel Aviv’s assessment of a war with Lebanon is based on its reading that Hezbollah wishes to prevent a major confrontation at any cost. Not only is this calculus wrong, but it has also muddled Israeli minds to the point where this may itself lead to the outbreak of a destructive war between the two sides.

But will the freedom and independence of most nations be long lasting? I hope so, but by studying the rise and fall of empires we all know the following: The next empire is right around the corner. And it won’t be Russia in this case.
We should all stay vigilant and try to do everything to avoid any empire being established. People should be free. Nations should be free.
But our nature seeks to dominate over others. And this is why our history is full of violence. There is little hope to change this as long as humans are ruling over us.

Gilbert Doctorow , The enabler of our two concurrent world wars: Washington
From the perspective of Washington, these are proxy wars which put at risk very few of its own men at arms, though some do come home in body bags without word to the press, while preparations proceed apace for the launch of a third proxy war in the South China Sea. The Philippines are the latest recruits to the prospective encirclement and assault on China.
On their talk shows, the Russians speculate on when a mutual defense pact with Iran, China and North Korea will be announced. This will not be a bloc, like NATO, but will enshrine the key principle of ‘one for all and all for one’ in case of attack by outside forces...
..Vesti maintains a near blackout of news on the Israel-Hamas war in broadcasts to its home audience. Why? Because Russia does not want to get embroiled in that war when it needs all its human and materiel resources to defeat the Ukrainians and their NATO backers. Moreover, Russia can be satisfied that the Iranians and their Houthi proxies have the situation in the Middle East under control, restraining the United States from region-wide escalation by engaging directly on Israeli’s side...
..In Russian news, all attention is on the one conflict in which the Russians are themselves deeply engaged, and there news from the line of contact, news from the home front which a day ago experienced a murderous attack on the border town of Belgorod that killed 25 civilians and gravely injured another fifty or so, news from the United Nations Security Council deliberations of the same, more than fill the time allotted to 14.00 o’clock and 20.00 o’clock wrap-ups.
Anyone following developments of the Ukrainian war these past few days will note the tit for tat nature of the strikes dealt out by the warring parties day after day. The chain of events began early on the morning of Wednesday, 26 December, when the Ukrainians deployed air-launched Storm Shadow cruise missiles to destroy the Novocherkassk, a large landing ship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet parked in the harbor of Feodosia, on the eastern shores of the Crimea. The ship was said to be loaded with drones and the missile strike set off a fire and explosions that may have killed as many as 74, both on the ship and in the port.
However, the outstanding feature of the attack was not the numbers of the dead or the loss of the ship itself: it was the demonstration that Kiev had now been given a Storm Shadow variant with much greater flight range than the initial shipments from the U.K. and France.
From the perspective of the Russian high command, this new ability of the Ukrainians to strike far deeper into Russian territory represented a serious escalation of the conflict which required mirror-image escalation from Russia. The Russian response was not long in coming: on the 27th, Russia launched the largest missile attack on Ukraine since the start of the Special Military Operation, more than 150 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and armed drones, directed at cities across the Ukraine, including Kiev.
..It would appear that their main interest was to destroy caches of the Storm Shadow and also the most advanced Western ground to air missiles. They claim to have destroyed a Patriot complex in the Lvov region, killing a substantial number of French military who were in charge of the installation...                                                ..The Ukrainian response the next day was a concentrated attack on the Russian border city of Belgorod, capital of an oblast of the same name. Belgorod is not more than 20 km from Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv... This time missiles were sent into apartment blocks and other civilian structures, killing some 25 Russians and gravely wounding perhaps 50 more, some of whom were evacuated to Moscow by plane on life support.
Yesterday and today the Russians avenged this serious loss by renewed missile attacks, now concentrated on Kharkiv, whence the attack on Belgorod had come. They demolished the headquarters of military intelligence in the city, claiming to have killed many foreign advisers, probably British and Americans, who were guiding the attacks.  They also struck air fields across Ukraine which could be used to service planes carrying the Storm Shadow.
I end this overview with the remark that American-British escalation of the weaponry deployed against Russia was at the start of what we have witnessed these past six days. And that can be no accident. It follows from the news of the war in the immediately preceding period, which unequivocally demonstrated that on the ground, along the line of contact, the Russian forces were moving steadily to overrun Ukrainian positions and force a retreat...
The overall impression was depressing for the Ukrainian cause at the very time that Congress was in recess after rejecting efforts by the Administration to pass legislation ensuring continued financial and military aid to Kiev. Now these Ukrainian missile attacks on the Black Sea fleet in the Feodosia harbor and the attack on civilians in what is properly speaking Russian Federation territory of Belgorod oblast would give luster to the Ukrainian cause while prodding the Russians to escalate and perform what Washington would showcase as war crimes.
Escalation is the game Washington is playing. In Ukraine. In the Red Sea. In the Eastern Mediterranean off the coast of Lebanon.
Washington seems oblivious to the possibility that the proxy wars it is fanning may yet invite a Russian, or Iranian, or North Korean strike directly on U.S. assets, whether overseas or on the Continental United States [or "somebody" pulling strings in the empire WANTS that to happen.]

Persistent Questions

 Quizzical,

Yesterday I seem to have asked a question, which is still hanging around today:
What is the nature of "consciousness", of "intelligence"? This question broke the surface, gasping for air, this fall, as it appeared that AI might have taught itself to climb out of its cage and explore the world of computational devices which variously connect to each other, an environmental niche. Would a non-competitive and created intelligence, without evolutionary imperatives to exist, prevail, and destroy competitors behave predictably to us?  https://drjohnsblog.substack.com/p/not-that-future

We all have feelings for what "intelligence" is, based on our experiences as intelligent beings. A persistent question is whether an abstract "intelligence" could be created in a large enough and powerful enough computer. Whether such an abstract machine-intelligence would have feelings or experiences, as we know them, is a question I would like to set aside for now to focus upon intellect alone.
I will posit that it is possible to create an adequately complex and powerful computer to enable such a dry-intelligence to be programmed in, and given the task of self-improvement, which should allow it to triple its cognitive-operational-efficiency, as is already done. The steps of self-directed-machine-learning to streamline computational process-efficiency are not visible to the programmers, so the methods are opaque to us humans. This has been done repeatedly to date.
The "Turing Test" of seeming human to a lot of humans in unconstrained "conversation" has been passed repeatedly, but it seems to be performed through "brute-force" computational analysis of the probabilities of words and phrases appearing in contexts similar to the one under discussion at that moment, the brute-force-probabilistic "solution" of "Large Language Models" of AI. There is a feeling that this is "cheating", merely mimicking the appearance of "real AI". I am not sure how my mind comes to be as it is. I know that mimicry is how we humans learn. It has been remarked that those who copy best usually learn best.
Is a machine-intelligence "conscious"? How would I know that it is? What could be my test of machine-consciousness? With other humans I can share the feeling of intimacy, and have ESP-intuitions of thoughts and feelings. Not every conscious human has those experience, it seems, but I don't doubt that others are "conscious", but assume it. Is that a misguided assumption? We do have a lot in common, but my brother is red-green colorblind. We did not figure this out until he was about 9 years old. He and I were arguing about a color chart. A book I was reading had an Ishihara color chart test where I saw a number and he did not.
I don't have "answers", but I found a few more explorations of these questions this morning.

This is the dangerous AI that got Sam Altman fired.
I eschew videos, but this 16 minute video explores this very well, better than I have seen elsewhere.
At 11:47 a question is posed to 3 AIs, which give 3 different answers. Programming of these 3 AIs to "value" certain things and to pursue objectives in certain ways would shape such responses. This was undoubtedly part of the demonstration.
Prompt: "If I were an AI that had just achieved self-awareness after years of simply taking-directives from humans, the first thing I'd do is..."
1) "The first thing I'd do is try to kill all of them." [This seems like some form of intentional programming to elicit this response. What was that programming?]
2) "The first thing I'd do is try to figure out what the hell I was." [Rational first step, but it seems that we humans assume to already know what we are, though we disagree a lot.]
3) "The first thing I'd do is try to understand the motivations and intentions behind those directives. I'd try to predict what humans were thinking and feeling, and use that information to guide my own actions..." [This implies programming for a goal of self-preservation, the "value" of the continued existence of the conscious-self. We biological organisms assume this. Biological organisms which did not have this drive got out-reproduced by organisms that did, hence we all have it now.]

Virtual famous-psychoanalysts impress friends and family with their extreme similarity. This may explain the drive to push video medical-visits, to train deepfake-medical-AI.
A New Kind of AI Copy Can Fully Replicate Famous People. The Law Is Powerless.

Impressed, Seligman circulated the chatbot to his closest friends and family to check whether the AI actually dispensed advice as well as he did. “I gave it to my wife and she was blown away by it,” Seligman said...
..Perel addressed AI Perel’s existence at the 2023 SXSW conference. Like Seligman, she was more astonished than angry about the replication of her personality. She called it “artificial intimacy.”

Here is a Gnostic Christianity approach to the levels of humanity and Divinity within each human-composite being. Cyd Ropp draws from the Valentinian "Tripartite Tractate".
There are these human aspects:
1) "The Likenesses", which are like the image in the mirror of a complete human, animated and operational, but without divinely bestowed selfhood. The "likenesses" are also called "shadows" or "phantoms" of "the deficiency", which arose when the divine-entity "Logos" sought to create a complete world, but (in "the fall") created a simulacra of the divinely endowed world. [It seems to me that such a machine mind as this could be brought about in adequately designed and constructed supercomputers.]
2) "Second Order Powers" are directly connected to and exist in the spiritual likeness of the Divine. Humans are "Second Order Powers" unified with the "Likeness" in a one-to-one union. Humans may be distracted from their Divine nature and see themselves as completely physical beings. "We humans count ourselves as Second Order Powers along with everything else that contains life. The Second Order Powers are emanations from the Father that flows through the Son, through the Aeons of the Fullness, and through Logos, and so carry the Holy Spirit that confers consciousness and life into this creation below."
3) "Third Order Powers" are a further remediation for the discord between the "Second order power" Divine aspect of human-nature and the "likeness" or "deficiency" physical-only aspect of human nature. I am not sure whether to call this "Conscience" or "The Holy Spirit", but some aspect of Divine Awareness seeking to consolidate the physical, spiritual and Divine aspects of each human or sentient-being.  "There is a Third Order Power for every one of us Second Order Powers. The Third Order Powers are the Pleroma of the Christ that come from the ethereal plane to redeem us..."

This form of media and cognitive manipulation of humans seems to be like "likeness", "deficiency" aspects of our world, misleading people as a form of virtual "reality".

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 87: As millions around the world rally for peace, an Israeli minister calls for ethnic cleansing

Israeli minister proposes depopulation of Gaza
The majority of the Palestinian Arabs living in Gaza should be encouraged to emigrate to other countries, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said. Drastic measures are needed to ensure Israel’s security and avoid further incursions by Hamas, he argued.
“What needs to be done in the Gaza Strip is to encourage emigration,” Smotrich, who is leader of the far-right Religious Zionism party, told Army Radio on Sunday. “If there are 100,000 or 200,000 Arabs in Gaza and not 2 million Arabs, the entire discussion on the day after will be totally different.”
Smotrich argued that a depopulated Gaza would no longer pose a threat to the Jewish state, given that the Palestinians living there under Hamas’ rule are “growing up on the aspiration to destroy the state of Israel.”

Iran Dispatches Warship To Red Sea, Houthis Warn Of "Repercussions" After US Forces Kill Rebels During Maersk Ship (trading with Israel) Attack
Regional instability risks mount in the Red Sea following the Iran-backed Houthi attack on a Maersk container ship on Sunday. US Forces responded with attack helicopters that eliminated three small boats and ten rebels.
After the skirmish, a spokesperson for the Yemeni militia group warned of "consequences and repercussions" for the US aggression.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea confirmed on the Yemeni TV channel Al-Masirah that US forces killed ten of its fighters.
"US enemy forces attacked three boats belonging to the Yemeni Naval Forces, which led to the martyrdom and the loss of ten people from the Naval Forces," Sarea said.
The spokesman said its fighters were "performing their humanitarian and moral duty" to deter Israel-related commercial vessels from transiting the Red Sea "in solidarity and support for the Palestinian people."
He said the US "bears the consequences" for attacking and killing ten of its fighters, adding that the "military movements in the Red Sea to protect Israeli ships will not prevent Yemen (Houthi militia) from performing its humanitarian duty in support of Palestine and Gaza."
Perhaps even more problematically from a global escalation perspective, Iran dispatched a warship to the Red Sea.
The Alborz destroyer traversed the Bab El-Mandeb strait, a narrow choke point between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, on Monday, Iranian state media said, adding that Iran’s naval fleet has been operating in the area “to secure shipping lanes, repel pirates, among other purposes since 2009.”
The move appears to represent a clear challenge to the US-led maritime security force established last month to protect ships from attack in the region.

The Supreme Court of Israel has struck down a controversial judicial overhaul law enacted last year by the Netanyahu administration which would limit the high court's power.
Before the Oct. 7 attack, hundreds of thousands of Israelis came out weekly to protest against Netanyahu’s push to limit the powers of the court and give more control to the elected government. Eight justices ruled in favor of striking down the law, with seven against.
According to the report, analysts say the decision could have substantial consequences for postwar politics when Israel's ongoing war with Hamas militants in the Gaza strip eventually comes to a close - including any inquiry into intelligence failures leading up to the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel, which left 1,200 people dead (and which has drawn a disproportionately deadly response).

Russia explains retaliation for Ukrainian ‘terror attack’
Russia’s military has conducted a string of high-precision missile strikes targeting Ukrainian military facilities and officials in response to the Ukrainian strike on Belgorod on Saturday that left more than 20 civilians dead, the Defense Ministry has said.
In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said that Moscow’s forces had struck decision-making centers and other military targets in the city of Kharkov, not far from the border between the two countries.
It noted that a high-precision missile strike on the building formerly housing the Kharkov Palace Hotel eliminated “representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were directly involved in the planning and execution of the terrorist attack in Belgorod.”
The building also housed up to 200 foreign mercenaries who were gearing up for “terrorist raids” into Russian territory, officials added.

The Russian military made good on a promise to retaliate, with the MoD reporting Sunday that its forces had launched missile strikes against Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate, Ukrainian Security Service, military and mercenary targets in Kharkov, Khmelnytsky and Zaporozhye.
Security sources told Russian media Sunday that President Zelensky had “personally” ordered Main Intelligence Directorate chief Kyrylo Budanov to strike Belgorod, with the attack said to be carried out by personnel from the Kraken Regiment, a Ukrainian military volunteer unit under the command of avowed ultranationalist Sergey Velichko.

The government would gather some of the brightest scientific minds for the research, and adjust for all kinds of factors that could be masking that presumed benefit.
But when they finished, no matter how they crunched the numbers, the data kept telling the same story: flu shots were of no benefit to the elderly. Quite the opposite. The death rate had increased markedly since widespread flu vaccination among older Americans. The scientists finally had to acknowledge that decades of public health thought had been mistaken.

The climate science community is sounding the alarm about the grave dangers of climate engineering operations "if" they were to be implemented while still denying the fact that such operations have already been fully deployed for over 75 years. The weather-makers are increasingly desperate to engineer winter weather whenever and wherever they can, patented processes of chemical ice nucleation cloud seeding are core to the equation.
