Toiling Together

 Collaborators,

I was never a good chess player, but I liked it as a kid, until I got into high school and played better players. I quit playing chess.
Now, in America, I have that game's-about-over feeling about our democratic political mechanisms.
No hope for any future elections.
Consolidation of big tech supremacy and intimate control of our thoughts, perceptions, purchases, travel and interpersonal communications.
Death by disconnection becomes feasible. Non-entities just shivering somewhere invisibly.

Here is how I have been feeling the past few days.

When I was working at the Pinon clinic on the Navajo reservation, in 1991, somebody rushed in and called for me to "come quick, a lady has been shot". I rushed down the dirt street to see a middle aged Navajo woman's head and shoulders on the ground and her bottom and feet up in the passenger side of the open truck. I pulled her out onto the dirt and stabilized her head and airway. She breathed.
A hysterical white lady was praising God, "She's Alive! Praise God!"
The woman had been shot in the right eye and the bullet came out the back of her head. Her heart was beating.
Her breathing became deeper, more gasping, periodic, then occasional gasps, then no more.
Her pulse weakened, then trailed off.
A Young Navajo man wanted to do CPR. I said, "no, she just herniated her brainstem. She's dead."
EMS arrived and I declared her dead.
I walked back with dusty trousers to finish seeing strep throats and diabetes at the clinic, hours of ordinary work for the people.
It was really hard for me to keep moving, ploddingly practicing medicine, but I had to do it. They needed me to provide their care.

There is that no-way-out feeling. We have to do this together. Individual humans just don't survive.
Any one of us has to come forward into the new world with the rest of us.
We have to co-create a living world. Selfish motives cannot work any more.
Sharing-paradigm-or-bust.

That's the conundrum, like in the dream, when you are just about to hit the ground and you wake up.
Spiritually, in Buddhism, this anguished helplessness is the situation to drive the soul to transcend the physical constraints.
The only way to change the hopeless situation is through spiritual engagement.
I practiced channeling  love to each person I saw, or whose presence I felt, on my bike rides to work Thursday and Friday.
I both did so and noticed my impediments in doing so.
I'm a spiritual Swiss cheese.

India is kicking ass on COVID with ivermectin. Thanks Jeremy.
Late last March, as the U.S. argued over the merits of Trump-endorsed hydroxychloroquine and studies failed in late-stage patients, India decided to recommend the drug in its national guidelines. HCQ “should be used as early in the disease course as possible…and should be avoided in patients with severe disease,” the directives wisely state. As a precaution, authorities suggested an EKG to monitor for a rare heart arrhythmia that several COVID studies have since shown to be minimal.
But a crucial turn for India may have come in August when the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh recommended use of another drug: Ivermectin, which is coming on fast as a leading COVID treatment — without the baggage of at-turns effective but vilified hydroxychloroquine.
This was no small move. Were it a country, U.P.’s more than 230 million citizens would rank it fifth worldwide. As India’s largest state, its embrace of ivermectin may have changed the treatment landscape across India.
“This authentication of ivermectin revived the faith of people,” Dr. Chaurasia told me, “and net result was a massive inclination to take these drugs” — both ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine.
By the end of 2020, Uttar Pradesh — which distributed free ivermectin for home care — had the second-lowest fatality rate in India at 0.26 per 100,000 residents in December. Only the state of Bihar, with 128 million residents, was lower, and it, too, recommends ivermectin.
But Uttar Pradesh did more than treat 300,000 mild cases at home through 2020; it also opted to use ivermectin to prevent infection. It seems a young health officer’s COVID response teams had taken the drug and remained well – something prophylaxis studies support. U.P. then had contacts of COVID patients take it, with similar success. “Recognizing the sense of urgency,” Amit Mohan Prasad, a U.P. health official, wrote in a Dec. 30 article, “we decided to go ahead.”

Here is some information from the listserv of doctors who treat COVID-19, that I'm on lately:
The reason that coronavirus is of interest as a vaccine vector is that the human body does not mount a very good response agains coronavirus. It slips in, so it can carry vaccine-program-RNA into cells. The suspicion that COVID may have originated in attempts to make vaccine, like AIDS vaccine, is more comprehensible to me, now.

A 35 year Dutch study on 4 strains of coronavirus shows that immunity has pretty much waned by a year from the last infection, and there are many as years go by.

SARS-CoV-2 cellular immunity (more important than antibodies, perhaps) is good at 6 months, but falls off pretty rapidly after that.

    1. Go Ivermectin! I've been prescribing more and more. Sick people want it.

  2. "maintenance of population immunity will not depend on continued vaccinations but on the endemic presence of SARS-CoV-2…"

"A second important question is whether the vaccines will be effective against reinfection or even eradicate SARS-CoV-2. Here, we suggest both answers are most probably no."

"SARS-CoV-2 is likely to remain present in the population."

"Infections from a young age and re-infections in later life will build up and maintain immunity."

    1. Yeah, . It's a 5th coronavirus strain in North America, and it is now pandemic AND endemic. It's never going away.
We'll just get mutant variants, like the one from South Africa, which vaccine and natural immunity (6 month thing) might not prevent very well.

  3. I've just bought another 150 3mg tabs - I'm expecting it to be outlawed here in the UK soon as in S. Africa.
