Anybody Driving

 Own-Ship Captains,

There are a lot of stories here today, mostly linked by the theme of the global financial economy being more and more of a distant lie, when compared to the actual physical economy, which it is supposed to reflect accurately. The ownership class in the world "owns" at least 5 times as much "wealth" as what really exists. The day of reckoning got put off in 2008, but that was an accident. I think most of us might be forced to take-more-losses than Bill Gates will.
Real global financial resets require the degree of global economic and societal control provided by world-wars. This scenario is being arranged, but it could also reset to a nuclear stone-age for the few people who survive anywhere. The cheap fuel and resources are running out and getting more  expensive, contributing further to real wealth falling farther and farther away from financial wealth.
There is massive pollution, but it is now located where most of us don't have to see it. There is global-warming from greenhouse gases, but there is no real-world way to change that, since oil and gas and coal are burned to keep real economy alive, which is what keeps people alive. A lot of us may have to move some day.
Some people's thoughts about there being too many people carry more weight than the thoughts of others, and those wealthy people like big solutions that they can implement widely, mass-produced solutions, solutions which preserve their agency, which keep them in the driver's seat.
We need to solve problems at a personal scale, to be more efficient at resource conservation and food-production ourselves.
We may have more useful insights into life on earth, as we go forward. We may adapt better. We might be able to help somebody we love.

Moon of Alabama (Germany) Drone Attack on Sevastapol
This morning at 4:20 local time the Russian fleet in the Crimean port of Sevastopol was attacked by nine unmanned aerial vehicles and seven autonomous maritime drones. Earlier a maritime drone that had run aground in Crimea and had been found and pictured   (in black spray-paint  finish option).
During today's attack a large U.S. drone had flown circles south of Crimea. It likely relayed data from and to the drones.
The maritime drones are British and Russia alleges that British specialists had trained the Ukrainian navy in using them. It also says that British soldiers were involved in the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline.

When you look at the efficacy numbers on the graph, a positive number means the vaccine reduces deaths from viral-illness. A negative number means the vaccine is helping the virus kill more people, compared to those who are not-vaccinated. That is a well known phenomenon with vaccines, happened with all animal trials of coronavirus vaccines in the years following SARS, and has appeared to happen with these novel vaccine-products as well, since June 2021.
As time passes the vaccine-products change from providing mild reduction in severity of illness, to helping it kill people. Senate Report: SARS-CoV-2 likely came from Wuhan Lab

Meryl Nass MD points out that the blame for the creation of the spike protein, which appears to have been spliced onto a fairly ordinary coronavirus, is already apparent in 2015 published gain-of-function work.   “What would have been truly damning, destroying any possibility of the pandemic having a natural origin, is if SARS-CoV-2 had been most similar to SHC014-MA15, the SARS-like coronavirus engineered by Ralph Baric in his infamous gain-of-function experiments published in the 2015 paper, “A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence.”

The "no-see-'em" technique still leaves specific fingerprints on the viral genome, where it is spliced together in the lab. They are just smaller and more subtle.

Endothelial dysfunction in COVID-19: an overview of evidence, biomarkers, mechanisms and potential therapies

It's not just that people find echo-chambers of shared belief systems, but that those echo-chambers are driven to resonate against each other, defining the groups further by making sharply antagonistic identity distinctions between rival groups.
How digital media drive affective polarization through partisan sorting
This paper suggests that this mounting evidence provides not only reason to reject the echo chamber hypothesis but also the foundation for an alternative causal mechanism. To propose such a mechanism, the paper draws on the literatures on affective polarization, digital media, and opinion dynamics. From the affective polarization literature, we follow the move from seeing polarization as diverging issue positions to rooted in sorting: an alignment of differences which is effectively dividing the electorate into two increasingly homogeneous megaparties. To explain the rise in sorting, the paper draws on opinion dynamics and digital media research to present a model which essentially turns the echo chamber on its head: it is not isolation from opposing views that drives polarization but precisely the fact that digital media bring us to interact outside our local bubble. When individuals interact locally, the outcome is a stable plural patchwork of cross-cutting conflicts. By encouraging nonlocal interaction, digital media drive an alignment of conflicts along partisan lines, thus effacing the counterbalancing effects of local heterogeneity. The result is polarization, even if individual interaction leads to convergence. The model thus suggests that digital media polarize through partisan sorting, creating a maelstrom in which more and more identities, beliefs, and cultural preferences become drawn into an all-encompassing societal division.

A Disordered World – Part 3: Pathways
..But a critical point is approaching. Economic growth is stagnating. Resource scarcity, climate problems and associated inflationary pressures are rising. High debt levels may prove difficult to sustain. The financial system is fragile. Global political, business and cultural elites are increasingly detached from the concerns of ordinary people. Geo-political tensions are high and the American-dominated unipolar world is under threat from within and without. The repeated shocks and loss of naïve confidence – political (911 and its aftermath), economic (successive crises), political (Brexit, Trump, rising populist authoritarianism) – are beginning to unravel existing structures.
But large systems do not fail quickly. British power has been falling for a century. The 1991 demise of the USSR can be traced back to Stalin’s commitment to unwinnable competition with an economically superior US at the end of World War 2.
While there are few clear markers, the internal contradictions of the existing order make instability likely. At the edge of chaos, the exact shape of any transformation is unpredictable...

Charles Hugh Smith: What Does Liberation Mean in the Real World?
Liberation in the real world is the result of self-reliance and investing in our own well-being.
Liberation has many contexts. It can mean being freed from imprisonment or servitude, freedom from gnawing want or oppression, or being liberated from prisons of the mind.
Note that the first form of liberation is external / material, the second is internal / psychological / spiritual. Many confuse the two, blaming an oppressive system for their unhappiness rather than their internal acquiescence to the system's narratives and values.
For many, liberation depends on the actions of others. If only we had different leaders, a different financial financial system, a different energy system, a different constellation of media, and so on--if only the powers that control our world were liberating rather than extractive.
The other approach is to accept responsibility for our own liberation within the system as it is
Demanding those benefiting so handsomely from the system as it is currently configured relinquish their wealth and power is not going to re-order the system when those benefiting from the system 1) have every incentive to devote all available resources to maintaining it as it is and 2) have an unshakeable belief that the system is so powerful (the state, the party, the central bank, etc.) that nothing could possibly destabilize their comforts, conveniences, wealth and power.

Thanks Red.  Radioactive traces in tree rings reveal Earth’s history of unexplained ‘radiation storms’
We analysed radioactive signatures left in tree rings around the world to study mysterious “radiation storms” that have swept over Earth half a dozen times in the past 10,000 years or so.
Our results, published today in Proceedings of the Royal Society A, rule out “solar superflares” as the culprit – but the true cause remains unknown...

To archaeologists, radiocarbon is a godsend. After it is created, carbon-14 slowly and steadily decays back into nitrogen – which means it can be used as a clock to measure the age of organic samples, in what is called radiocarbon dating.
To astronomers, this is equally valuable. Tree rings give a year-by-year record of high-energy particles called “cosmic rays” going back millennia.
The magnetic fields of Earth and the Sun shield us from cosmic rays shooting through the Galaxy. More cosmic rays reach Earth when these magnetic fields are weaker, and fewer when the fields are stronger.
This means the rise and fall of carbon-14 levels in tree rings encodes a history of the 11-year cycle of the solar dynamo (which creates the Sun’s magnetic field) and the reversals of Earth’s magnetic field.
But tree rings also record events we cannot presently explain. In 2012, Japanese physicist Fusa Miyake discovered a spike in the radiocarbon content of tree rings from 774 AD. It was so big that several ordinary years’ worth of cosmic rays must have arrived all at once.
As more teams have joined the search, tree ring evidence has been uncovered of further “Miyake events”: from 993 AD and 663 BC, and prehistoric events in 5259 BC, 5410 BC, and 7176 BC...
..How do you get such a huge pulse of radiation? A flurry of papers have blamed supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, explosions from magnetised neutron stars, and even comets.
However, the most widely accepted explanation is that Miyake events are “solar superflares”. These hypothetical eruptions from the Sun would be perhaps 50–100 times more energetic than the biggest recorded in the modern era, the Carrington Event of 1859.
If an event like this occurred today, it would devastate power grids, telecommunications, and satellites...
..Most puzzling, a couple of the spikes seem to take longer than can be explained by the slow creep of new radiocarbon through the carbon cycle. This suggests that either the events can sometimes take longer than a year, which is not expected for a giant solar flare, or the growing seasons of the trees are not as even as previously thought.
For my money, the Sun is still the most likely culprit for Miyake events. However, our results suggest we’re seeing something more like a storm of solar flares rather than one huge superflare.     [Hey, what if something drops earth's magnetic shields sometimes?]

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, letting visible light through to the surface of the earth, but reflecting long-wavelength infrared (heat) back down to the earth, just as a glass greenhouse does. Emissions have long been increasing, but increased water vapor in the air helped break it down faster, so levels did not increase much. Methane emissions are increasing further and overdriving that breakdown process, so levels are rising now. Methane stored in soil, permafrost and suboceanic clathrates may be releasing more. This unfreezing of methane clathrates is a tipping-point which may rapidly increase global warming if it is triggered.
Thanks Jeremy. [There is a lot of controversy, but there are a lot of tipping points which could make our world much hotter quickly. I'm not saying that we can decide as a global population to prevent this. I think we can't, and that those of us who can should invest in coping with this.

Distant Realities

Friendly  People,

Most of what we seem to know these  days comes to us from distant sources, intermediated through electronic channels of communication, which are owned by humans with certain "interests" in profiting from, and controlling, the flows of information in those channels. This may be direct, through advertising, or it may be covert, through CIA-funding, like Operation-Mockingbird, or influence peddling to the government, covert censorship and control-narrative management, like Facebook/Meta has done, and Google does invisibly with search rankings.
These costs must be paid somewhere in the economy, just as all of the costs of compliance, days and weeks trying to make connections within a system which will not work at all without that much of your life and time spent, just to participate at all. It's not really possible to comprehend the costs imposed by bureaucracy until one is paying and paying and paying them personally. They are usually hidden better than that, and we just miss the simpler days we remember.
Bureaucracies used to have responsible people at nodes of communication, responsibility and decision-making throughout any organization, bottom to top, making timely, informed local decisions, solving problems daily as they arose. A lot of problem solving might be done on a land-line telephone between humans.
A lot of information is transferred in such an exchange, efficiently to our human modes of constructive cooperation.
There can be "corruption" at these human nodesThere can be a culture of corruption, a Mafia type culture. It can be criminally profitable to infiltrate a flow of wealth and information. Electronic communications now force all communication and problem solving to rise to the top of a bureaucracy for assessment, which means decision-making. The goal is to contain all value within the system by avoiding corruption, but the cost is to destroy quick and appropriate decision making, and to make any action at all very costly to some entity. The bureaucracy will protect itself by externalizing compliance and documentation costs onto participating users.
All other pathways must be blocked. There can be no competing bureaucracy.  The ability to control any bureaucracy centrally destroys its ability to perform its designated function over time. It then mainly exists to keep existing, while presenting a parasitic cost to the rest of the economy.
Within the US we all bear these costs. I am aware of them a lot recently, as I deal with vast and nearly impossible compliance hierarchy in seeking medical employment. What is required may be impossible, but it is required, anyway to proceed, and there is no alternative. I have maintained my Texas medical license since 1987, having graduated med school in 1986, served a year-long internship, and passed multiple examinations, which have been ongoing. The city hospital where I served my internship, and later fellowship, no longer exists, but the forms require current contact information, medical director contact information and so on. At each layer of compliance bureaucracy up the hierarchy, there is a fixed requirement. So many people get paid to assure that each requirement is met and pass the form along or kick it back until it complies.
The US government bureaucracies do this to the rest of the world, as well as to Americans and businesses that serve Americans, including import and export of goods and services. The model of maximizing central control and externalizing costs can only be maintained if it is in a monopoly position. The US, with the global reserve currency for trade, extracts wealth and externalizes costs onto tributary countries. Perhaps half of the funding for thee federal government arises through parasitic extraction of value through creation of currency, which the rest of the world trades real goods and services for, to participate economically.
Banking and finance in the $US regime are further routes of parasitic extraction of wealth and resources.
What will happen when the alternative system, new and more efficient, perhaps user-friendly, is available as a real choice? It seems to me that the last to benefit will be those who are most trapped in the $US system, which are those of us in the "west", especially the USA. The bureaucracies will preserve themselves until "the end".

Big Serge takes the position that there is a lot of ruckus about tactical nuclear weapons, now dirty-bomb false flags in Ukraine, but that such use would not rationally serve the US/NATO or Russia. Ukraine could not coerce the US/NATO into an upgrade by using a dirty bomb, either.
He looks into tactical nuclear weapons, which are roughly the size of what was dropped on Hiroshima, and how they could be used.
Then Serge looks at the Battalion Tactical Group, which is like a Brigade, but with less infantry, and how that has affected Russian battlefield tactics, and why that may soon change.
https://bigserge.substack.com/p/sound-and-fury

Less reassuring about the risk of nuclear weapons use is Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences, retired Navy Captain, Konstantin Sivkov. This gentleman is of the opinion that the west, US/NATO has gotten into a situation where it has little useful land army, and really needs to control the world through nuclear coercion, but needs  Russia as a client-state to do so. The US/NATO really needs to go nuclear, but is puzzled as to how. He explains a lot of military tactical theory around this. The transcript is in English.

It's not encouraging. Maybe he's drunk. He doesn't look drunk.  (He says Neoliberal Capitalism is inefficient. He's Got to be Drunk!))

There are a lot of military considerations for both sides, Russia and US/NATO, and those are discussed, but here is the core premise.
  NATO Set To Attack Tiraspol?

Transnistria, as an unrecognized breakaway province of Moldova, has been defended by Russia since 1994 or so, and would be seen as fair game by NATO, which doesn’t seem to worry about the rules, anyway.
Just like Azerbaijan and Turkey taking Nagorno Karabakh, if NATO can grab Tiraspol nobody other than Russia is going to squawk about it.
A key military objective for NATO / 101st Airborne is likely to be Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria, which because of its geography, is the most difficult region for Russia to defend. Sandwiched between Ukraine and NATO, Russia has no supply lines to it. And more importantly, the two best bridges over the Dneister on the best-paved route to Odessa from Romania are located at Tiraspol...

..The much-vaunted Kherson offensive may yet prove to be a feint, and the Ukrainian Army’s real attack might well come against Tiraspol from Ukrainian territory, with the 101st Airborne soldiers attacking from across Moldova. Although Moldova is not a member of NATO, I have a feeling that the USA could twist arms hard enough to get permission to overfly Moldovan airspace, especially with the promise of returning Tiraspol to Moldovan control.
Plucking Tiraspol out of Russia’s hands would make Biden look strong just before the midterm election, even though so far he never has been strong. This could be hoped to be a repeat of Joe Biden’s apocryphal poolside triumph over the bully named “CornPop.”
Therefore, if NATO takes action toward Odessa, the 101st’s primary objectives will certainly be the three bridges over the Dniester. Taking these bridgeheads would allow a larger NATO force to cross over and prepare to defend Odessa.

Vladimir Putin spent a really long time at the Valdai Club, talking and answering extensive questions without notes or a teleprompter.

Several stories about that are worth reading. He said a lot.

The world is entering a decade of tumult as the pursuit of a more just world order clashes with the arbitrary hegemony of the collective West, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, addressing the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club...
..“We are standing at a historic milestone, ahead of what is probably the most dangerous, unpredictable and at the same time important decade since the end of World War II. The West is not able to single-handedly manage humanity, but is desperately trying to do it, and most of the peoples of the world no longer want to put up with it,” Putin said.
Conflicts arising from this tumult are threatening the entire humanity, and constructively resolving them is the principal challenge ahead, according to the Russian leader.
No one can sit out the coming storm, which has acquired a global character, Putin said. Humanity has two choices, “either to continue to accumulate a burden of problems that will inevitably crush us all, or to try together to find solutions, albeit imperfect, but working, capable of making our world safer and more stable.”

In a truly democratic multipolar world, any society, culture and civilization should have the right to choose its own path and socio-political system. If the US and Europe have that right, so should everyone else. Russia also has it, “and no one will ever be able to dictate to our people what kind of society we should build and on what principles.”
The biggest threat to the political, economic, and ideological monopoly of the West is that alternative social models may arise in the world – and would be more effective and more attractive.
“Above all, we believe that the new world order should be based on law and justice, be free, authentic and fair,” the Russian president said.
“The future world order is being formed before our eyes. And in this world order, we must listen to everyone, take into account every point of view, every nation, society, culture, every system of worldviews, ideas and religious beliefs, without imposing a single truth on anyone, and only on this basis, understanding our responsibility for the fate of our peoples and the planet, to build a symphony of human civilization.”

Putin Says Russia Won’t Use Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine
The Russian president said the world is facing the most dangerous decade since World War II

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared on Thursday that Russia is an “independent” civilization that does not consider itself an enemy of the West. Instead, he sees the “aggressive” and “neo-colonial” liberal elite in charge of the West as a foe.
“In the current conditions of a tough conflict, I will say some things directly,” Putin told a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club. “Russia, being an independent, original civilization, has never considered and does not consider itself an enemy of the West.”
Hatred for American, British, French or German people “are the same form of racism as Russophobia and anti-Semitism,” he added.
Putin went on to describe the West as two entities. On one hand, the traditional, primarily Christian West “is close to us in some ways,” he said, noting that “we have in many respects common and ancient roots.”
“But there is another West – aggressive, cosmopolitan, neo-colonial, acting as an instrument of neo-liberal ideas. It is precisely with the dictates of this West that Russia, of course, will never put up with,”
he continued.
While Putin undoubtedly sees the conflict in Ukraine as an existential struggle against the West – describing his forces as fighting the “entire Western military machine” and blaming the derailment of peace talks and sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines on the “Anglo-Saxons,” he has drawn a distinction between Western elites and Western society before...
While the West expands primarily to secure its “mercantile interest,” he stated at Thursday’s meeting, it also pushes its cultural exports on an unreceptive world. “If Western elites believe they can launch new trends like dozens of genders and gay parades, they have the right to do so,” he said. “But they don’t have the right to demand that others follow the same direction.”

As soon as any market is opened for certain goods, the West seizes it along with all the resources, pushing away local manufacturers, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “They build relationships this way – markets and resources are captured, countries are deprived of their technological, scientific potential. This is not progress, but enslavement, mixing economies to a primitive level” .

Putin calls for ‘dialogue on equal terms’ with the West
Only a world united by common goals can act on the challenges it faces.

The Russian leader said he believes in common sense and is convinced that sooner or later “new centers of power in the multipolar world and the West will have to start talking as equals about our common future.”
He was speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club meeting outside Moscow, in conversation with Russian foreign policy expert Fyodor Lyukyanov.

The United States will “retire the B83-1 gravity bomb,” and will “cancel the nuclear-armed Sea-Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM-N) program.”
During a news conference, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin faced questions about retiring the two programs, arguing that “our inventory of nuclear weapons is significant.”
"I do not believe this sends a message to Putin,” Austin told a reporter. “He understands what our capability is.”
(Not saying we can be reasonable.)

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced Friday the the end of the partial military mobilization order from last month, having reached the target goal of 300,000 to boost operational support for military action in Ukraine...
"The task set by you — to mobilize 300,000 people — has been fulfilled. No additional tasks are planned,” Shoigu told Putin during the televised meeting.
He specified that among the mobilized recruits, some 82,000 are already in the conflict zone in Ukraine and 218,000 still undergoing training.

The late Dr. Luc Montagnier a 2008 Nobel Laureate for the discovery of another pandemic RNA virus, HIV-1; predicted that the vaccinated would be at higher risk of transmission and mortality (implied) once immune escape variants emerged and became dominant.
The data below from the ONS confirms the vaccinated were at higher risk of COVID-19 mortality and also non-COVID-19 mortality due to spike protein toxicity with the mRNA vaccines.

On February 21, 2022, Frontiers in Virology published a report titled MSH3 Homology and Potential Recombination Link to SARS-CoV-2 Furin Cleavage Site. The Furin Cleavage Site is the component of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein that enables the virus to dock onto human lung epithelial cells, thereby initiating the viral replication process. It is the key feature of SARS-CoV-2 that made it infectious to humans. Examining the genetic code of this part of the spike protein, the authors noted that part of the sequence was a perfect match to a genetic sequence patented in 2016 by Bancel S. et al. in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Who could possibly have anticipated that mercury preservative in multi-dose vaccine vials could impair immune response, and be implicated as a cause of Bubonic Plague deaths, so long ago? Who could anticipate that the aluminum used as an adjuvant in modern vaccines, to get the immune system to respond to them would also suppress the actual ability to fight infections? Well, there's no going back now. We just have to keep injecting mercury and aluminum into ourselves and each other...  Thanks Luc.
(It's kind of interesting, though. I wonder if anything might be done about it in time. Single dose flu vaccines don't have mercury preservative in them, at least.)

Thinking Like A Forest

 Bipedal Hominids,

Ugo Bardi asks if "holobionts", which we are, and which a forest also is, can "think". Obviously our modes of problem-solving are different, but exist to benefit the furtherance of life. To what degree might humans "think-together", I wonder. We are different from trees, without interlacing root-networks, but we clearly act in concert for mutual survival and adaptation.
Can Holobionts Think?
I started this chapter by examining trees and forests as holobionts, then looking at human beings. Trees and humans are as alien to each other as we could possibly imagine. Humans are mobile creatures with an extravagantly powerful metabolism that makes them able to sustain protracted efforts longer than any other living animal. That turbo-charged metabolism is also used to maintain their large brains, of which they are very proud. They use their brains to control their muscles and their sophisticated sensory apparatus, as well as to deal with each other in complicated social rituals.
Trees are the opposite in almost all respects: they are immobile, their metabolism is slow: and they can’t even control their internal temperature. They don’t have eyes, nerves, brains, and not even muscles. Yet, they move, they sense their environment mainly by chemical signals, but also visual and mechanical ones -- including vibrations in the acoustic frequency. They "know" what's going on around them, but in ways that are mostly alien to mobile mammals, including humans.

Stuff is running out, like oil and copper. (Lead is surprisingly rare.)
People in developed countries have everything they need already, so failure modes have to be engineered into products to make them break in a few years, so people buy new ones.
People who do need stuff can't buy what they need.
Throughout the prior history of human economy, things made more sense and more efficiently provided for human needs with what was available. (Yes, it was much more human-effort to keep living.)

IEA: The Current Energy Crisis Is Unprecedented
The executive director of the International Energy Agency has said that the world is currently in the middle of the first truly global energy crisis.
Natural gas markets are particularly tight, and they are set to worsen next year as demand climbs and Europe struggles to replace Russian pipeline gas.
As well as being more expensive than pipeline gas, the lack of infrastructure to import LNG to Europe is resulting in delivery delays.

Refinery executives say that shuttered US refineries will not be reopened despite maximal utilization this year, and in face of ongoing shortfalls in refined products like diesel. It has already been pointed out that this is a 30 year investment to make a new refinery, and nobody can make that investment at all these days.

The 24 hour letter from 30 Congressional Democrats to President Biden to please negotiate peace between Russia and Ukraine "died suddenly". Why would this withdrawal-of-peace-request happen? Isn't this about avoiding nuclear holocaust?
“They waited to get about 30 and released,” one source texted The Hill on Tuesday morning, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive internal negotiations. “Didn’t consider election timing.”
A House aide said the letter was “circulated for signatures” in June. “We aren’t sure why it was released now.”
Progressive Caucus withdraws letter on Ukraine strategy amid blowback - 10/25/22 1:03 PM ET - The Hill
“The Congressional Progressive Caucus hereby withdraws its recent letter to the White House regarding Ukraine,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the caucus chairwoman, wrote in a statement, representing a stunning shift in their call for a diplomatic push to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
“The letter was drafted several months ago, but unfortunately was released by staff without vetting. As Chair of the Caucus, I accept responsibility for this,” Jayapal wrote.

Harmonizing Concepts

 Engaged in Life,

The unifying theme, if any, to the news links today is that we are in a world undergoing rapid change, after three centuries of industrialization driven by fossil fuels, mining, and advances in mechanical, then electrical and electronic technology. Our human numbers are multiplied by ten in that time, while the number of wild animals is much less than a tenth of what it was. The climate of earth is different, and changing, and there is a lot of pollution of many kinds, including in our processed foods.
I am not scare-mongering about climate and pollution. We just need to cope and adapt.
When we look at geological epochs, inhabited by life-forms, we see that mammals are pretty adaptable. We are unusually adaptable mammals.
What we may rightly fear is that a lot of us won't make the transition. None of us lives very long, but we don't want to freeze and starve to death or be murdered in war. The elites of human societies walk upon a raft of the rest of us, who are treading water. Their interests naturally differ from our interests. They want to walk, not to tread-water.
As our interests diverge, we must look to our own near term and longer term survival within a new context of less energy and more localization. We have the same human needs. We need to secure the means of providing our food, water, shelter, fuel and community.
The elites control us through narratives which are usually false, or at least misleading. We see that in the COVID-pandemic control-narratives, which did not beat the pandemic, but actually increased human deaths, denying effective antiviral treatments, then pushing "vaccines" which kill more than save.
We now see Nuclear War as the next control-narrative. It's powerful and desperate, very risky, but the real war is the war of financial systems, between the western banking and military system, which shifted to the $US around WW-2.  The new competitor, the BRICS system, is not based upon debt, but upon physical goods: oil, gold, wheat and other-commodities. A debt based monetary system requires trust that debts will be repaid, which is evaporating. There is fear of reprisal for leaving the system, but the Russian army going against NATO forces in Syria, now Ukraine, is reducing that concern. It is a critical last stand for the $US empire. Russia must be openly punished to sustain the western financial system. Tributary countries are already quietly backing away...

Houston, The CDC Has a Problem, Part 2 of 3The Ethical Skeptic (Forensic analysis of data manipulation of statistics by the CDC, and showing that data as it would have appeared before the recent data-system overhaul, shows the resultant falsifications, and how they were accomplished. The author has professionally analyzed corporate embezzlement multiple times. This is similar.)
Official data compromised so as to portray disinformation, is the warning sign that an entity, ostensibly one granted a government-authorized monopoly, under joint action to serve the American Public, is no longer serving science nor their fellow citizen – rather only social doctrines and out-of-control politics...
..The National Vital Statistics System Upgrade (the ‘System Upgrade’) afforded the CDC a timeframe inside which it could alter 22 weeks of NCHS-MMWR data. During this window of opportunity the CDC surreptitiously removed excess death records from its database, and adjusted the policies and techniques as to how ICD-10 mortality codes were populated with state death certificate data thereafter...
..Excess Cancer Mortality is being concealed through Cancer MCoD categorical reassignment to Covid-19 UCoD.
Sudden Adult Deaths are being concealed by holding Pericarditis-Myocarditis-Conductive heart related deaths inside the R00-R99 temporary disposition bucket, far longer than per historical practice, thereby falsely depleting the associated ICD-10 mortality trend for these related deaths.
Finally, the CDC is using the exact opposite technique, exploiting Multiple Cause of Death attributions and adding in completely fictitious deaths as well, in order to make its mRNA vaccines appear to be performing better than they are.
The CDC is using Multiple Cause of Death categorical gaming, and is creating novel death counts, in order to counterfeit an appearance that the unvaccinated are dying at a rate twelve times that of the vaccinated.
Full accounting details and graphic representations follow. This is why reporters are finding things in raw data, which are not found in official CDC reports.

This detailed essay looks at each aspect of the current wars of global reset, which I briefly alluded to in the introduction.
I pick one excerpt about the financial warfare between American and European banking interests, which is not much discussed.
US banking and economy profit greatly from reserve-currency status, a cornucopia of free(ish) stuff from the whole world.
Whichever side is losing or winning should consider a deal with the BRICS system, ahead of the competing western-banking interests. Europe is now a banking-war zone.
The Many Interwoven ‘Wars’ – A Rough Guide Through the Fog , Alastair Crooke
The Fed may keep raising rates for some time – even at the price of some market, hedge fund and small business collapse. Powell has the support of certain big New York banks who see the writing on the wall for the liberal-woke model: An end to their banking business as bailouts go digital and are paid straight into claimants’ bank accounts (as Governor Lael Brainard has proposed).
Powell says little (he is likely to stay clear of partisan U.S. politics at this sensitive moment).
The Fed however, may be attempting to implement a contrarian, controlled demolition of the U.S. bubble-economy, orientated precisely to haul America back onto more traditional financial tracks. To break the ‘leveraged-asset culture’ … You begin to resolve the huge societal inequality divide that the Fed has helped create, through QE facilitating giant asset bubbles … You begin to rejuvenate an American economy by ending the distortions. You dissipate the urge toward civil war because the issue no longer becomes just between ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’.
This vision may itself be a tad utopian, yet break the ‘everything bubble’, break the leverage culture, and it stops the ratchetting extreme of bubble beneficiaries versus 18 straight months of U.S. falling real wages.
But … but this is only possible if nothing systemic breaks.

Pepe Escobar looks at battlefield-Europe, with compromised EU leaders owned by competing interests, largely NATO.
Europe is peppered with American military bases.
All those bases may play the role of major terror bases – very much like in Syria, in al-Tanf and the Eastern Euphrates. The US lost the long proxy war in Syria – where it instrumentalized jihadis – but still has not been expelled.
In this process of Syrianization of Europe, US military bases may become ideal centers to regiment and/or “train” squads of Eastern Europe émigrés, whose only job opportunity, apart from the drug business and organ trafficking, will be as – what else – imperial mercenaries, fighting whatever focus of civil disobedience emerges across an impoverished EU.
It goes without saying that this New Model Army will be fully sanctioned by the Brussels EUrocracy – which is merely the public relations arm of NATO.
A de-industrialized EU enmeshed into several layers of toxic intra-war, where NATO plays its time-tested role of Robocop, is the perfect Mad Max scenario juxtaposed to what would be, at least in the reveries of American Straussians/neo-cons, an island of prosperity: the US economy, the ideal destination for Global Capital, including European Capital.
The Empire will “lose” its pet project, Ukraine. But it will never accept losing the European “garden.”

Moscow has discussed the threat of Kiev potentially using a “dirty bomb” with London and Washington at the level of the chiefs of the General Staff, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday... Moscow has been warning Western nations about Kiev’s alleged plans to use a “dirty bomb” to frame Russia for quite some time. The West, however, has remained largely dismissive of such warnings.
Earlier on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Kiev wants to frame Moscow as a “nuclear terrorist” by accusing it of using weapons of mass destruction and thus potentially launching a “powerful anti-Russia campaign.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also stated that the West’s disbelief in this scenario does not make the threat any less pressing.

Ukraine has to make the move (but we told our puppet not to move.) Nuclear-Armageddon threat is necessary for the good of the nation.
US officials have dismissed the idea of direct talks with Moscow without Kiev’s involvement, after some 30 Democratic representatives wrote a letter urging President Joe Biden to pursue a diplomatic end to the conflict in Ukraine.
“We’ve been very clear: Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday, adding that “this is a decision that President [Vladimir] Zelensky is going to have to make when it comes to any type of conversation with Russia, any type of negotiation.”

Video and transcript of Russian warning to UN security Council about Ukrainian attacks against civilians with US-targeted specialty munitions, as well as extrajudicial reprisal killings of civilians in contested cities, taken by Ukrainian forces. The threat of dirty-bomb fallout persists, from the Zaporozhye nuclear plant targeted shelling, and also from a "dirty-bomb" false-flag attack, which MI-6 in the UK is rumored to be coordinating with Ukrainian forces. Reading the transcript saves a lot of time.

I am told that the US military has taken their important chip manufacturing lines out of Taiwan already this summer, and that critical Taiwanese manufacturing plants have been prepared for quick explosive demolition by company workers, which would avoid civilian casualties from American military attacks to deny them to China in the event of invasion.
Other critical manufacturing lines may move to the US, Japan, even India, but the global monopoly on chip manufacturing, which is embodied in TSMC cannot move. It is a uniquely Taiwanese manufacturing economy and global supply chain node.
As of right now, the West's goal is to break up Taiwan's chip hub, though, as we noted earlier, TSMC's Chang warned that any such move would fail.
However, TSMC customers are already looking to diversify production out of the region, as explained by Sebastian Hou, managing director at Neuberger Berman, an investment management company:
"There have been some concerns among TSMC customers since two years ago ... It was the time when in Taiwan we started to have more fighter jets from China hovering around the Taiwan Strait, and that has become a daily routine."
So far, those customers include Qualcomm and Nvidia, who have recently stated that some chip production from TSMC's facilities would be shifted elsewhere.
Hanbury said the big question would be if Apple changes manufacturing partners due to the increasing risks in the Taiwan Strait.
"Taiwan's monopoly in semiconductor production creates instability," Brad Martin, director of the National Security Supply Chain Institute at the Rand Corporation, said. "If the US is faced with a need to make a decision between protecting its economy and defending Taiwan, that starts to become a very stark decision."

This Biden-corruption may be the point around which a transfer of power may be negotiated after US midterms.
It is feasible to scapegoat the Biden family for "mistakes made" and have a national policy pivot away from so many currently failing policies.   This cannot actually happen without so many special-interests and deep-state players getting taken-care-of that it is hard to envision. Still, in history changes do come, and they tend to come in big packages after a long period of systemic stagnation, so it would be timely. A power-transition can't happen without a lot of serious deal-making, and some losers. Nobody wants to lose.
A year-long exploration of Hunter Biden’s laptop has yielded a 630-page report that its authors say document 459 violations of state and federal laws and regulations by President Joe Biden’s son and his business partners.

Plastic formulations and container formats could change to optimize the channeling of plastic into incineration for electrical generation. Lots of toxic compounds are released into the air. It's an industrial scale undertaking, done in some places already. Reusable grocery bags, OK?
Recycling plastic a ‘failed concept’ – Greenpeace
Only 5% of US household waste was recycled in 2021, so “systemic changes” are needed, the organization said...
..“Instead of continuing on this false path, companies in the US and around the world must urgently phase out single-use plastics by replacing their packaging with reuse and refill systems and offering packaging-free products,” it said.

Professor Ugo Bardi does not focus on human evolution, or climate change here, but on the evolution of forest ecosystems over hundreds of millions of years, which happens to include a lot of those finer points, but does not get distracted by them. There is a lot of useful information integrated into this work of revelatory insight.
The Great Cycle of Earth's Forests
A forest is a magnificent, structured, and functional entity where the individual elements -- trees -- work together to ensure the survival of the ensemble. Each tree pumps water and nutrients all the way to the crown by the mechanism called evapotranspiration. The condensation of the evaporated water triggers the phenomenon called the "biotic pump" that benefits all the trees by pumping water from the sea. Each tree pumps down the carbohydrates it manufactures using photosynthesis to its mycorrhizal space, the underground system of roots and fungi that extracts mineral nutrients for the tree. The whole "rhizosphere" -- the root space -- forms a giant brain-like network that connects the trees to each other, sometimes termed "the Wood Wide Web." It is an optimized environment where almost everything is recycled...

Cooperative Ecosystems

 Pondering Solutions,

Gail Tverberg,  Why financial approaches won’t fix the world’s economic problems this time   [There is a lot of focus upon energy-poor Europe.]
The issue is a physics problem. The economy doesn’t run simply on money and debt. It operates on resources of many kinds, including energy-related resources. As the population grows, the need for energy-related resources grows. The bottleneck that occurs is something that is hard to see in advance; it is an affordability bottleneck.
For a very long time, financial manipulations have been able to adjust affordability in a way that is optimal for most players. At some point, resources, especially energy resources, get stretched too thin, relative to the rising population and all the commitments that have been made, such as pension commitments. As a result, there is no way for the quantity of goods and services produced to grow sufficiently to match the promises that the financial system has made. This is the real bottleneck that the world economy reaches.  [Eliminating a lot of claims on the economy would reduce the strain. You and I have some claims...]

“The Communist Party of China always implements its decisions.”   [There is a hardening of policy, and power is concentrated in Xi Jinping alone.]
Accordingly, failure to resolve the Taiwan issue, for example, would be a failure of Party policy, which is unacceptable to the new political leadership. The soft period of Chinese diplomacy is over.
A public demonstration of the new course was the incident with former Party General Secretary Hu Jintao, who was forcibly escorted out of the hall just before the end of the event. The politician only looked around in confusion, but found no support from his colleagues.
Hu Jintao advocated maintaining good relations with the U.S., and was also an opponent of a military solution to the Taiwan issue. Such a former CPC Chairman’s escorting out of the hall is a clear demonstration of the renewed anti-Western foreign policy of Beijing, which, apparently, is ready for any measures, defending its sovereignty and the role of a superpower in the modern world.

Xi Jinping shows narcissistic and sociopathic traits. He has concentrated all power in his hands, and eliminated all non-allies from the Central Committee. He has also eliminated young rising stars from any proximity to power. This speaks to his interests being more personal than national, which makes the nation subject to degradation when any ill health befalls this 69 year old man. Xi-the-despot is in for the duration, unless he dies, but then what?
When Xi's recent predecessors were in charge, party congresses were occasions to elevate younger leaders for grooming as eventual successors. Xi himself took this path to the top.
But he has shunned the practice. In 2017, he did not anoint a successor, and again at this party congress Xi, 69, has left few clues about his plans for eventual succession. None of the new Politburo Standing Committee members are young enough to be considered true successors to Xi in five or 10 years' time.
"Even a quick glance at the Politburo ... obviously doesn't seem to indicate a person who's there to be a successor," Saich said. "So it's clear Xi intends to rule. He intends to rule as the key figure. And it pushes any question of succession off into an unpredictable future."

Jim Kunstler,  The Authorities Are Our Enemies
The people who run things in this country don’t deserve your respect or allegiance. They are at war with you. They want you and your children dead.
So, the CDC has not only put an as-yet-untold number of kids on the road to disability, infertility, and death, but it may have coincidentally destroyed public schooling in America.
The so-called “uptake” on mRNA shots for children has been paltry. Parents do not want their kids to get the shots. Do you know why? I’ll tell you: Because, unlike the experts who sit on the CDC’s Vaccine Advisory Committee, many parents have actually read about the serious adverse reactions in young people who get the shots. And many more have heard enough horrifying rumors — despite the criminal delinquency of the major news media in ignoring any negative news about the vaxxes — prompting these parents to steer clear of vaxxing their children. Other countries have officially and altogether discontinued mRNA vaxxes for children. Do you think that’s for no reason?
If the schools require mRNA shots, then many parents will not send their kids to these schools...
..Beneath all of this lies the subterranean flow of enormous sums of money to the Pharma companies that virtually own the US public health bureaucracy. Anthony Fauci’s minions, dispersed among the various agencies under the US Department of Health and Human Services, plus those in the ancillary CDC, have been pulling hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in royalties from patents associated with the mRNA products. And they’ve continued to haul in that schwag during the three-year fracas over the bad faith origins of Covid 19 and the deceitful introduction of these so-called “vaccines” — which do not stop the transmission of the disease and present manifold dangers to those who take them.
Everything the authorities tell you about all this is a lie. They are turning desperate because the time is at hand when they will actually have to answer for their crimes against the people of this country. They don’t deserve your respect and they surely can’t command your compliance.

Moderna vaccine caused Type 1 diabetes in a 1 year old girl in their clinical trial--reported by Alex Berenson
Anthrax vaccine also caused this side effect
(Implies autoimmune dysfunction destroying the cells in the pancreas that make insulin.)

Polio Vaccines and the Origin of AIDS 1994    (Never say "oops"!)
..It is now known that the early polio vaccines were contaminated with at least one monkey virus, SV40. The transfer of monkey viruses to man via contaminated vaccines is particularly relevant to the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), since the causative agent of AIDS, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), is thought to be derived from a simian precursor virus. Furthermore, human infection with this virus appears to be a relatively recent event. We hypothesize that the AIDS pandemic may have originated with a contaminated polio vaccine that was administered to inhabitants of Equatorial Africa from 1957 to 1959.

Dr. Aaby was one of the first scholars to study the non-specific effects of vaccines and he has become the world leader in the field. For over a century it was assumed that a vaccine only had an effect on the specific disease that was targeted. Dr. Aaby's research shows that vaccines change the immune system in ways that are unexpected. There are positive non-specific effects when a particular vaccine changes the immune system in ways that also provide protective effects against other diseases and negative non-specific effects when a vaccine changes the immune system in ways that leave one more vulnerable to other diseases.
Dr. Aaby's research in the late 1970s showed large positive effects from a measles vaccine. Children in Guinea-Bissau vaccinated against measles not only developed fewer cases of measles, they also died less frequently from other diseases as well. But in 1989, the W.H.O. introduced a new measles vaccine.   Dr. Aaby and his team discovered negative non-specific effects from this formulation — girls vaccinated with the new measles vaccine died at twice the rate as unvaccinated girls...Dr. Aaby was awarded the Novo Nordisk Prize in 2000 — the highest honor in Denmark for advances in medical science.
Over the last three decades, Dr. Aaby and his team have studied the non-specific effects of the other vaccines administered in Guinea-Bissau. His findings in connection with the DTP vaccine — the most widely administered vaccine in the world — are the most shocking. Across multiple studies, Dr. Aaby found that children vaccinated with DTP have 5 times higher (95% CI: 1.53-16.3) all-cause mortality than children who were not injected with DTP. He and his team also found sex effects — girls were more likely to die following DTP vaccination than boys...
..Dr. Aaby, Dr. Benn, and their team have shared their findings with the World Health Organization on multiple occasions. To date, the World Health Organization has done nothing. Indeed the W.H.O., under pressure from the Gates Foundation, uses DTP vaccination coverage rates to measure whether a country is meeting its vaccination goals (and is thus eligible for additional funding). Given that the DTP shot kills 5 times more kids than it saves, the W.H.O./Unicef vaccine program throughout the developing world is a crime against humanity that must be prosecuted by the international criminal court.
Dr. Benn goes on to explain that their massive research project has shown that three live attenuated vaccines appear to offer more benefits than harms: oral polio, measles by itself (not MMR), and tuberculosis (called BCG)...   these three live attenuated vaccines are NOT available in the U.S...
..All of the other vaccines studied by BHP — adjuvanted, recombinant, and genetically engineered protein subunit vaccines — cause more harms than benefits.
So according to the best data set in the world, ALL of the vaccines on the U.S. schedule cause more harms than benefits.
[Thanks for this, Bill. The question of Tetanus vaccine alone, without diphtheria and pertussis, arises. Tetanus deaths in the US fell steadily and fast until 1940, reaching a low level, presumably due to sanitation and shoes reducing soil-contaminated puncture wounds. In 1940 Tetanus toxoid vaccine was introduced, and cases and deaths fell more gradually into very low numbers. There is no neonatal Tetanus in the US, but it has been prominent in poor nations, related to poor sanitation and nutrition at birth. Tetanus kills. It's hard to find a clear risk:benefit analysis for just Tetanus vaccine.]

Professor Ugo Bardi: The Proud Holobionts: (Healthy gut bacteria are necessary for good immunity, mental health and clear cognition, for instance.)
A holobiont ("whole being") is an ensemble of creatures that live together in symbiosis -- helping each other. All the living creatures of Earth are holobionts, and the ecosystem itself is a giant holobiont (that some call "Gaia"). You are a holobiont, we are all holobionts. And even things like companies, states, ideas, markets, and more, are holobionts  The concept of holobiont gives us a paradigm on how to arrange our existence in harmony with all the creatures that surround and help us.

Thanks Charles: Sublime reason: when Isaac Asimov met Jay Forrester
This article describes an encounter between servomechanism innovator, digital computing pioneer and creator of system dynamics, Jay Forrester, and Isaac Asimov, renowned author of science fiction (including “The Foundation Trilogy” and its fictional discipline of psychohistory) and works of popular science. Their lengthy exchange took place at a workshop in 1975 and four descriptions of it are extant. What emerges in passing is a possible link between Asimov's thinking and Forrester's work on “World Dynamics”. Most notable, however, is that the encounter saw the two exchanging ideas on how to think about the future, how to bring about a desirable future, and quite what that desirable future should look like. The two had fundamental differences on key points.
